  • 2. Objective The objective of this Power Point is toteach user’s the basics of MicrosoftPower Point. This will lead into user’s making theirown slides on the RTC’s evacuationprocedures, with an example of what itmay look like.

What will be covered In this presentation we will cover thefollowing: Creating a new Power Point presentation Changing the theme of a presentation Adding text to slides Adding slides to a presentation Adding images to a presentation Animating the transition between slides Creating a slide show for presentation
  • 4. Creating a Power PointPresentation To start off we must open Power Point. This is normally done by click the start buttonon the lower left bottom of the screen. Once this is done a window will pop-up and onthat window there will be a bar that saysprograms After clicking programs a list of folders willappear, one of them being Microsoft Office Clicking that folder will open a fewprograms, one of them being Microsoft PowerPoint
  • 5. Start Button, while different withother versions of windows, the startbutton is always located here
  • 6. Creating a Power PointPresentation Normally after opening power point a newpresentation will be opened. However should you need to make a new onethis is how it is done: Locate the File button towards the upper rightof the screen and click it Once the File tab is clicked there will be aribbon to the left labeled NEW. Once clicked a icon labeled BlankPresentation will appear, double click on thatand you will have made a new Presentation.
  • 7. Creating a Power PointPresentation After creating your first presentation youshould have a screen such as this:
  • 8. Changing the Theme Next topic we will cover is how tochange the theme of your Power Point. Without a theme a presentation isdull, and can pull the audience awayfrom said presentation. To do this we need to click the designtab at the top.
  • 9. Changing the Theme There is no right or wrong when it comes tothemes, its all about personal preferenceand what flows with your presentation
  • 10. Changing the Theme As the last slide showed, there are manythemes for users to choose from. One thing to be noted however is thateach theme is unique, and changes theformat and layout of your slides. Despite this however, you can rearrangethe format of your slides. It just takes a little practice while you aretrying to get comfortable with PowerPoint.
  • 11. Adding texts to slides As I’ve said before this is what your firstpresentation should look like:
  • 12. Adding text to slides As the previous slide showed, therewere two grey boxes. To add text to a slide it is as simple asmoving your mouse anywhere insidethat box, clicking, then typing.
  • 13. Adding Slides No presentation can be done with justone slide. Next I will explain how to create moreslides and the type of slides there are. First you need to make sure that you areunder the home tab, which is locatedtowards the top left of Power Point, rightnext to the file tab.
  • 14. Adding Slides Once you are under the home tab youwill notice that there is a button that saysNew Slide.
  • 15. Adding Slides Once you have located the new slidebutton click the little arrow next to it. Itbrings down a drop down box.
  • 16. Adding Slides Now with Microsoft Power Point you havemany options. Each slide choice has its own set-up, butfor now the main focus should be on the“title slides” and “title and content slides” These are the two slides you will be usingthe most with Power Point. After the drop down box appears simplyclicking one of the choices will create anew slide.
  • 17. Adding Pictures Next I would like to direct your attentionto the insert tab
  • 18. Adding Pictures The insert tab has many wonderfulfeatures for adding pictures and clip art. To add pictures you simple press thepictures button while under the Inserttab. A window will then pop-up directing youto locate what picture you would like. Power Point also comes with its ownart, called Clip art which has its ownsearch.

Animating Transitions Transitions are effects that you canapply to the exit and enter of each slidein your presentation. Like the themes there are manytransitions to choose from and it is up tothe user to find one he/she likes. To access these, click the animationtab, then click the slide you want to addan animation to, then click the addanimation button
  • 20. Animating TransitionsAdding Animation Transitions simple givesyour power point a cleaner look to it
  • 21. Creating a Slide Show Now that we have covered the basics itstime to save our work. Once again go tothe home tab.
  • 22. Creating a Slide Show Once you have clicked Save As awindow will pop-up looking like this:
  • 23. Creating a Slide Show Once this windows pops up it isimportant for you to make sure thatunder the field where it says Save Typeas is Power Point Show. If not there is a drop down box that willgive you choices. You can name your file as well anchoose where to put it!
  • 24. Evacuation Process After you have become comfortable withPower Point lets try a project Using power point create a few slides onthe evacuation process for the RTCBuilding. The next few slide will be an example ofwhat it may look like.
  • 25. RTC Evacuation Process In case of emergency please follow thenext few slide for they contain maps onproper exits for the RTC Building. Always remain calm during anemergency, and follow an instructordirections.

  • 29. Conclusion Now that we have learned the basics ofPower Point, it is up to you to practicePower Point. I hope this Power Point helped!
