1 john 5

  1. 1. TO KNOW HIM WHO IS TRUE1 John 5
  2. 2. THE LOVE OF GOD1 John 5. 1 Every one who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child ofGod, and every one who loves the parent loves the child. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments.3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. A child of GOD  believes in JESUS as CHRIST  loves the parent (Father of Jesus)  loves HIS other children  keeps HIS commandments  does not consider HIS commandments burdensome
  3. 3. OVERCOMING THE WORLD 1 John 5. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world;and this is the victory that overcomes the world, our faith. 5 Whois it that overcomes the world but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? Those who are born of GOD, that is, children of GOD,  believes that Jesus is the Son of GOD  overcomes the world through their faith
  4. 4. THE SPIRIT IS THE TRUTH 1 John 5 6 This is he who came by water and blood, JesusChrist, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. 7 And the Spirit is the witness, because the Spirit is the truth.8 There are three witnesses, the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and these three agree. Jesus’ coming was attested by  HIS water baptism in public, which was  witnessed by the Holy Spirit (represented by the dove), and  HIS sacrifice on the cross (shedding HIS blood).
  5. 5. THE TESTIMONY OF GOD Matthew 3 16 And when Jesus was baptized, he went upimmediately from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like adove, and alighting on him; 17 and lo, a voice from heaven, saying, "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."
  6. 6. THE TESTIMONY OF GOD 1 John 5 9 If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God isgreater; for this is the testimony of God that he has borne witness to his Son. 10 He who believes in the Son of God has the testimony inhimself. He who does not believe God has made him a liar, because hehas not believed in the testimony that God has borne to his Son. 11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. With the strong witness of SPIRIT, water and blood, and the verbal confirmation of the FATHER, the testimony of GOD  compels us to believe in the SON;  confers eternal life on those who believe;  makes those who still do not believe accusers of GOD’s integrity.
  7. 7. YOU HAVE ETERNAL LIFE 1 John 5 12 He who has the Son has life; he who has not theSon of God has not life. 13 I write this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.A clear line is drawn within the human race regarding JESUS CHRIST:  those who believe, and  those who do not believe in GOD’s testimony about HIS SON.This makes the ultimate difference between having eternal life and not having eternal life.
  8. 8. ASK ANYTHING ACCORDING TO HIS WILL1 John 5 14 And this is the confidence which we have in him, thatif we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have obtained the requests made of him. Let’s be clear about this:  GOD does not answer all our prayers;  GOD only answers prayer which is according to HIS Will;  We will know GOD’s Will for us by GOD’s answer to our prayer.
  9. 9. SIN WHICH IS MORTAL1 John 5 16 If any one sees his brother committing what is not amortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal. All wrongdoing is sinful but not all sin is the same:  unbelief is a mortal sin whose consequence cannot be overturned by prayer  non mortal sin can be remedied by prayer  prayer is seeking God’s grace and strengthening so that sin does not overcome us and spoil our life.
  10. 10. WE ARE OF GOD1 John 5 18 We know that any one born of God does not sin, but He who was born of God keeps him, and the evil one does nottouch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world is in the power of the evil one. Belief in GOD through HIS SON  assures the believer that s/he is not in mortal sin  guarantees that s/he will be secure from the evil one
  11. 11. THE TRUE GOD1 John 5 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know him who is true; and we are inhim who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Knowing everything we now know from 1 John,  we know him who is true  we are in him who is true  we keep yourselves from idols.
  12. 12. THE TRUE GOD2 Timothy 1 12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I amnot ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.
  13. 13. I KNOW WHOM I HAVE BELIEVÈD I know not why God’s wondrous grace To me He hath made known, Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love Redeemed me for His own. Refrain But I know Whom I have believèd, And am persuaded that He is able To keep that which I’ve committed Unto Him against that day. (Dan-i-el W. Whit-tle, James Mc-Gran-a-han)
