      -Romans 1:25-28
      Understanding Addictions:
      Choosing to
      be in Control
    • II. Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • No one takes it from me,
      but I lay it down
      of my own accord.
      I have authority to
      lay it down
      and authority to
      take it up again.
This command I received from my Father.
      -John 10:18
      Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • Again he asked them, "Who is it you want?"  And they said, "Jesus of Nazareth." "I told you that I am he," Jesus answered. ……
Jesus commanded Peter, "Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?“
      -John 18:7-11
      Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • -C.S. Lewis-
      The Lion, the Witch &
      the Wardrobe
      Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • “And having disarmed
      the powers and authorities,
he made a public spectacle of them,
      triumphing over them
      by the cross.”
      -Colossians 2:15
      Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me; but I do as the Father has commanded me.
      - John 14:30-31
      Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • “Do you refuse to speak to me?" Pilate said.
"Don't you realize I have power either to free you
      or to crucify you?"
      Jesus answered,
"You would have no power over me if it were not given to you from above."
      - John 19:10-11
      Jesus Chose Powerlessness
    • III. Acknowledging our Powerlessness
    • We Must admit that we are powerless over our addictions
      Acknowledging our Powerlessness
    • We must cry out
      to Jesus
But he said to me, "My
grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."
Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses,
      so that Christ's power
      may rest on me.
      - 2 Corinthians 12:9
      Acknowledging our Powerlessness
    • We must reach out to others for help
      Acknowledging our Powerlessness
