S c h u l t e r e v e a l e d i n Los Angeles on O c t o b e r 18, 1972, t h e o n l y known i n f r a r e d p i c t u r e s o f UFOs made by t e c h n i c a l l y q u a l i f i e d p e r s o n n e l . The films were t a k e n by S c h u l t e and two co-workers, Bob F o r r e s t e r and LaRue S t i l l w e l l w h i l e t h e t h r e e were employed i n t h e p h o t o g r a p h i c e n g i n e e r i n g d e p a r t m e n t o f North American A v i a t i o n s E l Segundo f a c i l i t y . On t h e morning o f March 5 , 1955, S c h u l t e and S t i l l w e l l had d e c i d e d t o photograph, from Los Angeles, a t m o s p h e r i c a t o m i c t e s t s b e i n g conduct- ed a t Frenchmans F l a t , Nevada. They f e l t t h a t t h e y c o u l d o b t a i n b e t t e r . c i t y - s k y l i n e p i c t u r e s t h a n t h o s e p r e v i o u s l y p u b l i s h e d and t h e y s e t up two Speed Graphic l+ X 5 cameras, w i t h E k t a r l e n s e s , on a v a c a n t l o t i n Baldwin H i l l s . S t i l l w e l l used s t a n d a r d Type B f i l m . But S c h u l t e used a r e d - s e n s i t i v e Type C f i l m , Tri-X. ( T r i - X manufactured now i s a d i f f - e r e n t t y p e of f i l m from t h a t made i n 1955.) h e a l s o equipped h i s camera w i t h a 25-A r e d f i l t e r , t h i n k i n g a r e d - s e n s i t i v e f i l m might r e c o r d t h e bomb b l a s t more d i s t i n c t l y . khen S t i l l w e l l came o u t o f t h e l a b w i t h two p r i n t s he had j u s t pro- c e s s e d , one h i s and one S h u l t e s , he j o k i n g l y remarked, "Hey, Norm, youve g o t a f l y i n g s a u c e r on y o w p i c t u r e . " There was a v e r y c l e a r , d i s t i n c t l i t t l e o b j e c t i n t h e middle o f t h e picture. Under a magnifying l o o p it looked even more c u r i o u s . S t i l l w e l l blew it up a b o u t 50 d i a m e t e r s and it looked even more unexplainable--and a n o t h e r unknown o b j e c t was found, s m a l l and l i k e t h e f i r s t , dome-shaped. T h i s d e c i d e d t h e two t o g e t i n t o t h e i n f r a r e d i n v e s t i g a t i o n of UFOs and Bob F o r r e s t e r , a l s o i n t e r e s t e d , j o i n e d them i n a s e r i e s of e x p e r i - ments. The i n f r a r e d p a r t o f t h e e l e c t r o m a g n e t i c s p e c t r u m ( t h e e n t i r e s p e c t - rum b e i n g a l l k i n d s of e l e c t r o m a g n e t i c r a d i a t i o n ) c o n s i s t s of i n v i s i b l e h e a t waves o f v a r y i n g f r e q u e n c i e s . I n v i s i b l e i n f r a r e d i s a n e x t e n s i o n of and i s c o n t i g u o u s t o t h e r e d end of t h e v i s i b l e l i g h t spectrum. The men knew t h a t t h e human eye can p e r c e i v e o n l y a s m a l l f r a c t i o n of t h e e l e c t r o m a g n e t i c spectrum. If UFOs c o u l d o p e r a t e i n i n v i s i b l e a r e a s o f t h e spectrum two p u z z l i n g a s g e c t s of many U O r e p o r t s would F be c l a r i f i e d ; sudden d i s a p p e a r a n c e s o f t h e o b j e c t s , o f t e n d e s c r i b e d a s "ike someone t u r n i n g o f f a l i g h t b u l b , " and a p p e a r a n c e s on r a d a r o f a p p a r e n t l y s o l i d t a r g e t s i n v i s i b l e t o t h e naked eye. "We were g e t t i n g v e r y s t r a n g e images e v e r y n i g h t , " S c h u l t e s a y s o f t h e e x p e r i m e n t s . "And t h i s happened f o r a b o u t 3 0 c o n s e c u t i v e n i g h t s b e f o r e we d i s c o n t i n u e d t h e p r o j e c t . Only one o r two t i m e s d i d we draw a blank. I n 28 o r 29 of t h e s h o t s we had one i ~ g e more; e v e r y t h i n g s from c r e s c e n t s t o boomerangs and o v a l s . T h e r e were c i g a r , domed, and e l l i p t i c a l - s h a p e d objects--very d i s t i n c t , very c l e a r c u t , very intenso." "We e l i m i n a t e d a l l p o s s i b i l i t i e s o f any k i n d o f e r r o r o r c o n v e n t i o n a l explanation such a s fogging, chemical d e f e c t o r r e f l e c t i o n s , " S c h u l t e states. .. S c h u l t e s g r o u p d i s c o n t i n u e d i t s e x p e r i m e n t s , which were known t o t h e 13 o r 1 4 n i g h t - s h i f t employees of t h e North American p h o t o g r a p h i c e n g i n e e r i n g department. S c h u l t e kept t h e i n f r a r e d n e g a t i v e s a t h i s home. About t h r e e weeks l a t e r , i n e a r l y May, 1955, S c h u l t e was con- t a c t e d by a n Air F o r c e o f f i c e r . S c h u l t e was d r y i n g p r i n t s one e v e n i n g - - i n a c l a s s i f i e d department-- andlooked up t o s e e t h e s t r a n g e r s i t t i n g a t h i s s o r t i n g t a b l e . S m a l l t a l k l e d somehow t o UFOs and t h e i n f r a r e d p i c t u r e s . The man a s k e d i f he could s e e t h e p i c t u r e s . S c h u l t e t o l d him t h e y were a t home whereupon t h e man became v e r y i n d i g n e n t and wondered why p r o p e r t y o f North American s h o u l d b e a t S c h u l t e s home. S c h u l t e t o l d him t h e p i c t u r e s were n o t t h e p r o p e r t y of North American and t h e man demanded t h a t h e b r i n g them i n . "About t h a t t i m e , he b r o u g h t o u t a m i l i t a r y o f f i c e r s i d e n t i f i c a t i o n c a r d . I t s a i d C a p t a i n somebody. I d o n t remember h i s name, b u t t h e surname S c o t t 1 comes t o mind. He t o l d me h e was from t h e A i r M a t e r i a l Command a t W r i g h t - P a t t e r s o n A i r- F o r c e Base and t h a t he had h e a r d a b o u t U O p i c t u r e s made a t North Amer- F i c a n , and t h a t i t was h i s i m p r e s s i o n t h e y were p r o p e r t y of North Amer- i c a n and t h a t he was s e n t o u t h e r e from Ohio t o o b t a i n t h e n e g a t i v e s f o r i n y e a t i g a t i o n and a n a l y s i s , " S c h u l t e s a i d . 1 s a i d I d be g l a d t o l e n d them t o him f o r a n a l y s i s p r o v i d i n g I 1 g o t them back. While p l a y i n g i n t h e y a r d , s h e l o o k e d up a t t h e sound o f p l a n e . She saw t h e p l a n e and a l s o a n o t h e r o b j e c t a t . h i g h a l t i t u d e . It appeared t o be round and had a w h i t i s h - m e t a l l i c g l i n t i n t h e b r i g h t s u n l i g h t . I t t r a v e l e d from west t o e a s t a t a g r e a t e r speed t h a n t h a t of p l a n e s a t t h a t t i m e . when a b o u t d i r e c t l y o v e r h e a d , it made . a l o n g c u r v i n g t u r n t o t h e s o u t h and f i n a l l y d i s a p p e a r e d from view.     • Troy Woman R e p o r t s S i g h t i n g t o Study Group D i r e c t o r - Object Also Seen By D i r e c t o r s Wife, Kathy S c h u e s s l e r , a t O F a l l o n , Mo. Mrs. Erna S t i n e r , a h a i r d r e s s e r i n Troy, Mo., was on h e r way t o h e r home on Route 1, f o u r m i l e s from Troy, between 7:30 and 8:00 p.m. Oct. 17, 1972, when s h e saw a b r i g h t sky o b j e c t which s h e was u n a b l e t o identify. A f t e r t h e f i r s t g l i m p s e , t h e l i g h t was hidden behind t r e e s and wasnt s e e n a g a i n f o r a n o t h e r m i l e when Mrs. S t i n e r t u r n e d e a s t on Highway U. I t wes a m i s t y n i g h t w i t h no s t a r s v i s i b l e , and t h e r e had been r a i n e a r l i e r . The b r i g h t l i g h t , remaining a t t h e same e l e v a t i o n and a p p a r e n t l y t h r e e m i l e s d i s t a n t was t r a v e l i n g t o t h e n o r t h e a s t . It appeared t o have t h r e e o r f o u r b r i l l i a n t w h i t e l i g h t s w i t h a s o f t glow about each. The weather c o n d i t i o n s could have accounted f o r t h e "glowR Mrs. S t i n e r thought. A s h e r husband wasnt home a t t h e t i m e , Mrs. S t i n e r drove on p a s t h e r home t o h e r p a r e n t s home a s h o r t d i s t a n c e n o r t h ; and s h e , w i t h M r . and Mrs. E r n i e Buenemann, s t o o d on t h e f r o n t porch, f a c i n g e a s t and watched t h e o b j e c t f o r s e v e r a l minuter.     • Michiaan S i n h t i n R Reported David Wazny, 29, a G e n e r a l Motors employee a t t h e Saginaw, Michigan,f o u n d r y , was d r i v i n g t o work, w e s t on Highway M-81, s h o r t l y a f t e r f i v eo c l o c k EST, t h e morning of October 2, 1971, when he saw a b r i g h t l i g h to v e r t h e highway about one m i l e ahead. Wanxy t h e n decided t o move h i s t r u c k t o t h e s h o u l d e r o f t h e r o a d andd i d so. Soon a f t e r an A&P d e l i v e r y t r u c k approached from t h e west. Wanzyt r i e d t o f l a g down t h e t r u c k , b u t t h e d r i v e r d i d n o t s t o p . The o b j e c tc o n t i n u e d t o hover and he watched it a few more m i n u t e s , t h e n g o t i n t oh i s t r u c k and proceeded w e s t , d r i v i n g s l d y and watching t h e l i g h t s .A f t e r h e had t r a v e l e d f o r about a h a l f m i l e , t h e l i g h t suddenly a c c e l e r -a t e d towards t h e s o u t h and was o u t of s i g h t w i t h i n a s h o r t time. S t i n s o n , Wanzy s a i d he was shook up byt h e s i g h t i n g and would l i k e t o have some e x p l a n a t i o n f o r what he had seen.Having s e r v e d i n t h e Army t h r e e y e a r s , h e was s u r e t h e o b j e c t was n o t ah e l i c o p t e r o r any c o n v e n t i o n a l a i r c r a f t . With t h enaked e y e , it was e a s i l y s e e n , b u t i t s s h a p e was d i f f i c u l t t o d e f i n owithout t h e a i d of binoculars o r a telescope.
