WE ARE HERE

Tarragona is a city in the South of Catalonia.
It’s one of the four provinces included in the country.
Catalonia is in the North West of Spain.

Tarragona the capital city of the province with the same name.
The Romans founded the city more than 2.000 years ago and left behind lots of archaeological remains from this period .

The Arc de Barà was built by the Romans in the first century BC in honour to the emperor Augustus.

There are other important monuments in the city from that time, like the Wall or El pont del Diable , an aqueduct used to bring water to the city.

One of the most important places in Tarragona is its Port, one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean coast.

Much of its activity is related to the
transportation of industrial goods,
marina and passengers, apart from being a fishing port.

Tarragona receives many classes of ships: cargo ships, warships, fishing boats, cruise ships, yachts, etc.
In the market you can find different kinds of fish, being the sardine the most popular.

It’s the viewpoint of Tarragona When you are there you feel like flying!! Twice a week there is a market where they sell fruits, clothes, toys, books .

The rambla is a 2 km Avenue located in the middle of the city where there are lots of shops, monuments, promenades, trees and restaurants.

Santa tecla is the most important festivity in Tarragona. Streets are full of people doing different activities.

The “castellers”, are human towers that have been traditionally constructed from over two hundred years.

“ Colles” (Gangs) are groups that meet to make towers.
Participants climb up over other people to build up the tower ( up to 9 storeys).

You rub the tomato onto the bread.
Put salt on tomato bread
Put olive oil on bread with tomato

The “spring onions” (calçots) are vegetables that are eaten with Romesco sauce.
Find attached a photo of their cultivation and elaboration.

Calçots are eaten with Romesco Sauce , which is typical from Tarragona and it’s extremely spicy but delicious .

The crema catalana is a homemade cream often families do.
The final touch is given with a spread of sugar which is caramelised later on.
