    • Tarragona is a city in the South of Catalonia.
    • It’s one of the four provinces included in the country.
    • Catalonia is in the North West of Spain.
  • 5.
    • Tarragona the capital city of the province with the same name.
    • The Romans founded the city more than 2.000 years ago and left behind lots of archaeological remains from this period .
  • 6.
    • The Arc de Barà was built by the Romans in the first century BC in honour to the emperor Augustus.

  • 7. There are other important monuments in the city from that time, like the Wall or El pont del Diable , an aqueduct used to bring water to the city.

    • One of the most important places in Tarragona is its Port, one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean coast.

    • Much of its activity is related to the
    • transportation of industrial goods,
    • marina and passengers, apart from being a fishing port.
  • 10.
    • Tarragona receives many classes of ships: cargo ships, warships, fishing boats, cruise ships, yachts, etc.
    • In the market you can find different kinds of fish, being the sardine the most popular.
  • 11. It’s the viewpoint of Tarragona When you are there you feel like flying!! Twice a week there is a market where they sell fruits, clothes, toys, books .
  • 12. The rambla is a 2 km Avenue located in the middle of the city where there are lots of shops, monuments, promenades, trees and restaurants.

    • Santa tecla is the most important festivity in Tarragona. Streets are full of people doing different activities.

    • The “castellers”, are human towers that have been traditionally constructed from over two hundred years.
  • 16.
    • “ Colles” (Gangs) are groups that meet to make towers.
    • Participants climb up over other people to build up the tower ( up to 9 storeys).

    • Cut the bread straw
    • Cut the tomato
    • You rub the tomato onto the bread.
    • Put salt on tomato bread
    • Put olive oil on bread with tomato
  • 20.
    • The “spring onions” (calçots) are vegetables that are eaten with Romesco sauce.
    • Find attached a photo of their cultivation and elaboration.
  • 21. Calçots are eaten with Romesco Sauce , which is typical from Tarragona and it’s extremely spicy but delicious .
  • 22.
    • The crema catalana is a homemade cream often families do.
    • The final touch is given with a spread of sugar which is caramelised later on.
