THE HISTORY OF THE CHIHUAHUA’S • Chihuahua’s originated in Mexico and records show the breed to be approximately two thousand years old. • The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of dog and is named for the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. • The Chihuahua has emerged as one of the most popular breeds in the United States. APPEARANCE • Chihuahua’s average height is between 6-10 inches. • Female and male chihuahua’s average weight is between 4-10 pounds. • The chihuahua can live up to 15-22 years with some chihuahua’s living to as old as 25 years. • Chihuahua’s • have a litter size of 2-5 pups. There are two main varieties of chihuahua, a short-haired and long-haired. • Chihuahua’s come in any color combination. The common colors are black, white, and tan. Monday, 27 January, 14

PERSONALITY OF A CHIHUAHUA • Chihuahua’s are extremely loyal to their owners. • Chihuahua’s are eager to give and receive affection from their owners. • Chihuahua’s make a great companion dog because they form a strong connection with their owners. • Chihuahua’s can appear to be a peace loving, tame dog until someone knocks on the door. They are notorious yappers. • Chihuahua’s Monday, 27 January, 14 can be unpredictable around small children.

THE HEALTH OF A CHIHUAHUA • Chihuahua’s are not prone to many illness or defects and have one of the longest life spans of any breeds. • Some of the smaller Chihuahua’s can be quite frail in the legs and have been known to break their leg simply by jumping off the couch. • Chihuahua’s can tremble or shiver when stressed, excited, or cold.   • 11. PJ I developed my passion for chihuahua’s because we have a chihuahua in our family. His name is PJ which is short for Peanut Junior. PJ is 16 years old. PJ is like other chihuahuas in that he is black and grey, he is yappy and he wears a sweater. Even though he bit me when I was younger we are now the best of friends. Monday, 27 January, 14
