      • The 2010 Olympic mascots were released to the world on November 27, 2007
      • The designers were Vicky Wong, and Michael Murphy
      • They run a company called Meomi Design

      • Adventurous, young sea bear, part orca and part Kermode bear
      • A sea bear is a mythical bear from a Native legend, where orcas transform into Kermode bears on land

      • Quatchi reminds people of the great mysteries and wonders of nature
      • Loves all winter sports but especially likes hockey

      • Works hard to achieve his goal of becoming a world-famous goalie

      • Sumi lives in the mountains of British Columbia
      • He wants to learn all the sports
      • He likes to fly over the coast mountains
      • His favourite colour is fern green
      • He is a legendary thunder bird
      Sumi
      • Wears the hat of an orca, and has the wings of the legendary thunderbird and the legs of a black bear
      • Represents many things: an orca represents the guardian and traveler of the sea; a black bear represents strength and friendship; the thunderbird is the most powerful legendary creature and can create thunder

      • Mukmuk is the mascots’ si dekick
      • First ever made sidekick
      • Small and friendly Vancouver Island Marmot
      • Loves making new friends and cheering them on during games and races
      • Gets his name from the Squamish First Nations word “muckamuck”, which means food, because he loves to eat
    7. Medals
      • VANOC is looking for artists that are interested in designing the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic medals
      • Artists and desi gner s will have the chance to submit their des igns until Jan. 30 th , 2008
      • The gold and silver medals will be 92.5% silver and the gold medal must be covered with six grams of gold
      • The Paralympic medals will have the name of the sport and/or discipline on the back of the medal in English and Braille
    8. Medals Cont.
      • There will be 549 medals given out at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, 183 each of g old, s ilver, and bronze
      • For the 201 0 Van couver Winter Paralympics, there will be 318 medals
      • given out, 106 each of gold, silver, and bronze
