    • The turn out this year was higher than last and the support looks great for our chapter.

    • Because of her active involvement and willingness to lend a helping hand, we are proud to name her our first Member of the Month!
    • She will receive a PRSSA tumbler as well as recognition on our Web site and ImPRessions!
  • 4. Media Internship
    • WJIM AM 1240 in Lansing is the flagship station for the award-winning, syndicated "MPS in the Morning Show," a news talk, sports, business, lifestyle and entertainment-based morning show which airs each weekday morning from 5:30 - 9:00 am on 11 stations across Michigan.
    • You'll work with public relations companies receiving pitches, developing stories, learning audio production, and being a part of a very fast-moving, connected relevant morning radio show. Developing media lists, attending press conferences and media events, and making contacts are part of the reward for waking up early each morning. The early bird catches the worm!   • 5. Young Media Stars Case Study Competition Hosted by Starcom MediaVest Group
    • Do you think you have what it takes to work in Media Strategy and Investment? Want to work with brands you know and love?
    • Attend SMG's first ever case study competition October 15-17 for a chance to win a trip to Chicago, tour SMG offices and learn first hand about careers in media.
    • The competition kicks off with a Media Strategy and Investment workshop on Wednesday, October 15 at 6 p.m. at 119 Eppley Center to educate students about the fundamentals of connecting consumers with brands via media. The competition is open to all students in their junior or senior year.
    • Students interested in participating in the competition should attend the workshop on October 15 as it is not necessary to register prior to the beginning of the competition.

  • 7. Come Watch Us Win the Bid for PR ApPRentice!
    • Among the many outstanding offerings at this year's Conference is the chance to observe the PR ApPRentice competition, 10 a.m.- noon, Friday, Oct. 24.
    • The competition is a Regional Activity hosted by Eastern Michigan University that simulates the Bateman Case Study Competition and Donald Trump's hit reality TV show "The Apprentice.“
    • You are the audience as Michigan students present their campaigns to the client, Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, the largest foster care agency in Michigan. Proposals will use new, creative ideas, within a $20,000 budget, to increase awareness of the need for more foster care parents and mentors in Michigan. Winners of this event will receive $500 and a trophy for their Chapter!
    • This session has a maximum capacity of 250 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Be sure to consider it as you make your Conference plans.

    • Candidates and Campaigns 08: Media and Messages
    • Thursday, October 16, 2008

    • Kellogg Center, East Lansing
    • Ed Sarpolus has been following candidates and campaigns for many years as a pollster. His views on strategy and messages are often sought out by state and national media. Join Ed for his insight into this fall's political landscape and observations on how candidates and campaigns are using traditional media and new media to reach and influence voters.

    • Interested in volunteering at sites including Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, Westside Alliance, and a few others? Participate in Make a Difference Day! If you gather a group, you can all go to the same site, if you would like. Students can register online at www.streets.msu.edu . Follow the link that says "sign-up for Make a Difference Day“. Once registered you will receive complete details via e-mail.

    • Writing an article for ImPRessions is a great way to get published and have some material for your portfolio.
    • Also, for a submission to ImPRessions you will receive 2 Hubbell points.
    • The deadline for the November issue is Thursday, October 23.
