The Objectives of the Apollo Missions <ul><li>To establish the technology to meet other national interests in space. </li></ul><ul><li>To achieve preeminence in space for the United States. </li></ul><ul><li>To carry out a program of scientific exploration of the moon. </li></ul><ul><li>To develop man’s capability to work in the lunar environment. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Apollo 1 <ul><li>On January 27, 1967 </li></ul><ul><li>A spark in the wiring and catches fire to the command module. </li></ul><ul><li>The hatch got stuck shut, the astronauts were killed. </li></ul><ul><li>They were Vigil Grisson, Edward White, and Roger Chaffee. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Apollo 11 <ul><li>First lunar landing </li></ul><ul><li>Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins. </li></ul><ul><li>Stayed on moon for 21.6 hours </li></ul><ul><li>Landed in the sea of tranquility </li></ul>

Apollo 13 <ul><li>56 hours after take off oxygen #2 blew and #1 failed </li></ul><ul><li>They decided to live in the lunar module </li></ul><ul><li>Known as a successful failure </li></ul><ul><li>The astronauts were James Lovell, John Swigert, and Fred Haise. </li></ul><ul><li>“ Huston we have had a problem” </li></ul>
  6. 6. Apollo 14-17 <ul><li>They landed on the moon in different places. </li></ul><ul><li>Fra Mauro, Hadly-Apennie Region, Descartes Highlands, and Taurus-Littrow Highlands and Valleys. </li></ul><ul><li>Government stoped funding after Apollo 17 </li></ul>
