- Kobe Tokyo Epicentre was on the island of Awaji, 18km away from Kobe The earthquake struck Kobe at 5.46a.m on Tuesday January 17 th 1995 it measured 7.2 on the Richter Scale . This is a scale used to measure earthquakes. The quake killed 5,000 people and injured 100,000 people Osaka Where is Kobe?
