Noun Person, Place, Thing Example: Maria, China, Cat
Article Introduces, limits, or clarifies noun Example:  The, A, An
Pronoun Takes the place of a noun Example:  I, He, She, It, They, We, You
Verb Action word.  Many tenses possible. Example: Go, Jump, Call, Be, Run
Adjective Describes a NOUN Example: Red, Big, Smart, Tall
Possessive Adjective Describes who owns the noun Example:  My, Your, His, Her, Their
Adverb Describes a VERB Example: Swiftly, Well, Loudly
Preposition Relates object to rest of sentence Example: Over, Through, During,  On, Beside, Against
Subject Does the action in a sentence “ Marie  walked through the door”
Object Receives the action in a sentence “ Marie walked through the  door .”
