  • 4. Slope is sometimes referred to as the “ rate of change” between 2 points.
  • 5. The letter “m” is used to represent slope.
  • 6. When given two points (x 1 ,y 1 ) and (x 2 ,y 2 ), use the formula:
  • 7. Find the slope of the line through the points (3,7) and (5, 19). x 1 y 1 x 2 y 2 Example #1:
  • 8. Find the slope of the line through the points (3,7) and (5, 19). m = 19 – 7 5 – 3 m = 12 2 m = 6 Example #1 (continued):
  • 9. (3, 4) and (-6, -2) m = -2 – 4 -6 – 3 m = -6 -9 m = ⅔ Example #2:
  • 10. What if the numerator is 0? Then the line has a slope of zero.
  • 11. What if the denominator is 0? Then the line has no slope, because division by zero is undefined.
