Introduction to UCMAS
UCMAS (India) Pvt. Ltd., was established in the year 1999 in the month of September. With its corporate office located at Anna Nagar, Chennai-600 040, UCMAS started it’s Indian operations. Bringing the Concept to India as a National Franchiser, UCMAS INDIA took the responsibility of spreading the concept in the entire country to benefit the children across all parts. Ever since inception, the company grew steadily appointing franchises not only in Chennai but also outside the city – in various district locations. Today, UCMAS has centers not only in the entire state of Tamil Nadu but spread to other states adjoining and far off. Numbers are represented in Abacus as Beads and positions.
Hence in Arithmetic computation using abacus, numbers are converted into bead images.
Bead images are registered as mental images
Arithmetic using Physical Abacus
Arithmetic functions are done using abacus – moving beads on rods which have specific values
Abacus based Arithmetic functions – calculations thereof enhance Concentration levels.
Children form an image of the Abacus and do sums mentally.
Calculations done with Abacus, using the fingers of both the hands stimulate the brain – both the Right and Left Brain.

Mental Arithmetic by Image of Abacus
After a period of 6 – 9 months of vigorous practice on Arithmetic calculations using physical Abacus, the child will be able to do Mental Arithmetic by image of Abacus.
Image of Abacus is nothing but Mental Abacus / imagined abacus.
Children do calculations mentally using mental abacus (imagined abacus). Calculation speed increases at least FOUR-fold.
Mental Arithmetic by image of Abacus is done by children with high speed and accuracy levels.
Extreme levels of Concentration & perfect Visualization would result in high speed and accurate calculations.
Concentration and Visualization in children make them very good in their studies and excellent in Image memory.
Listening skills of children zoom to high quality levels on account of the program inputs.

Each rod has one Upper bead and four Lower beads
The abacus gets Value only when bead / beads touch the bar
The value of one Upper bead is five
The value of each Lower bead is one
The minimum value in a rod is zero & The maximum value in a rod is nine
When the Beads are moved towards the Bar, the value of Abacus increases and vice versa.
The mental calculation is defined as calculation of number conception and the way of imaging the abacus calculation in brain is called as the mental arithmetic by image of abacus.
In recent years we have been discussing and studying the mental arithmetic by image of abacus which is more advantageous than other skills in the light of the result of examination.
