Scaffold reading presentation

  1. 1. SCAFFOLD READING/WRITING LESSON PLAN EDSU532 – Wilfred Tanner Effective Literacy Instruction for Single Subject Candidates
  2. 2. CONTENT AREA STANDARDS  Common Core Standards  6.EE.A.1  Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole number exponents  6.EE.A.2  – Expressions & Equations – Expressions & Equations Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers
  3. 3. CONTENT VOCABULARY CONCEPTS • • • • • • • Term - a number, a variable , or a product or quotient of a number and one or more variables raised to powers. Coefficient - the number in front of the variable; “1” if no number is present. Variable - a letter representing an unknown quantity. Constant - a real number (rational or irrational). Exponent/Power - a number expressing the number of times a variable or expression is multiplied. Expression - a combination of terms & numeric operations. Equation - an expression with an equal sign separating terms.
  4. 4. MATERIAL AND RESOURCES • • • • • Mimio electronic whiteboard and the associated software. A large whiteboard to use to project the Mimio screen onto and to write comments on. Also can print copies of the Mimio work done in class as well as saving it for later use. Handouts related to the identification of terms, exponents, coefficients, constants, variables, expressions and equations would be needed. Handouts identifying Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences A magnetic whiteboard and the magnetic letters which little kids play with in their little alphabet-reader toys. Use the magnetic letters to demonstrate the concepts of terms, coefficients, variables, exponents, expressions, and equations. Have the students demonstrate their grasp of the understanding of the concepts related to terms using this magnetic whiteboard.
  5. 5. PRE-READING STRATEGIES  Anticipation Guides  Multiple  Terms Intelligences
  6. 6. DURING READING STRATEGIES  Study Guides
  7. 7. POSTREADING STRATEGIES  Reaction Guides  Terms  Multiple Intelligences
  8. 8. FORMATIVE AND SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT  Worksheets from Algebra Minutes resource
