Podcasting with iMovie 08 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Podcasting using iMovie 08 Mr Matthew Theobald
    2. Teacher background information • Current teaching position: Senior Campus (year 10-12) of a dual campus school • Currently teach year 10 Multimedia and year 10, 11 & Photography • The personal purpose for this task is to investigate new methods of teaching in the new Mac Lab and develop student’s knowledge of the Macs
    3. The Mac Lab • 22 iMacs • A personal project of mine to equip students with industry standard equipment and software and the knowledge how to use it - heavily supported by the school • Many hours invested in proposal to acquire the lab
    4. Software & equipment available to students • iMovie 08 • iTunes • Adobe Master Collection (including Photoshop CS3) • Microsoft Office • Student’s mobile phones • Video Cameras
    5. Student Background Information • Multimedia students normally have class in one of the school’s PC labs • Through negotiation with another staff member, a room swap has been organised for this task • The class contains 20 year 10 students ranging in age from 15 to 17
    6. Teacher use software • In the classroom I will use Apple Remote Desktop to demonstrate live demos to students. • At home I will use SnapzProX to capture footage for my podcast
    7. Aim for students • To create a Podcast that can be shown to the class that demonstrates a sound knowledge of some aspect of multimedia • The topic is selected by the student • The requirements for the task are outlined in the handout sheet
    8. Aim for teacher • To develop skills in using iMovie 08 • To develop skills in using Apple Remote Desktop • To enable students to create Podcasts that can be uploaded to Youtube and linked to their blog and demonstrate an understanding of Web 2.0 technology
    9. How Podcasting will be taught • Students will be shown the video created for Youtube as a whole • The will also be shown a freestyle live action version of “how to Podcast” through Remote Desktop which enables the administrator/teacher to mirror/stream what is happening on their screen to every screen in the room or Apple computer in the school
    10. Time allocated • As access to room has been done through negotiation, students have been given 3 x 100 minute classes to create the Podcast • Prior to commencement in Mac Lab, students will be allocated time to research and gather information required
    11. Conclusion • This is the first task of this nature and a step in the direction I would like to run many future classes • Teaching the students these skills at year 10 will hopefully advance their skills for years 11 & 12
    12. Conclusion continued • The Mac Lab was installed approximately one month into term 1 2008 • The installation of the Lab is not complete and awaiting the technical staff to complete the job • The incomplete nature of the Lab does add some slight difficulties in teaching in the environment, but should not effect the outcome of this task
