Irish Dance Soft Shoes <ul><ul><li>Worn only by girls; for Reels, Light Jigs, Slip Jigs, Single Jigs. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Made of black leather and similar to ballet shoes in design. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Laces crisscross across the top of the feet and are tied up around the ankle or under the arch of the foot. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Worn tight fitted on feet to enhance look of feet positions. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Worn with special socks, called Poodle Socks. </li></ul></ul>

Irish Dance Reel Shoes <ul><ul><li>Worn only by boys; for Reels, Light Jigs, Slip Jigs, Single Jigs. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Made of black leather, with fiberglass heels that the dancers can click together. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Boy's steps are different than the girl’s, in order to use the heels. </li></ul></ul>

Irish Dance Hard Shoes <ul><ul><li>Worn by boys and girls; for Treble Jig and Hornpipe, to create beautiful rhythmical percussions. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Made of black leather with fiberglass heels and taps on the tip of the shoes. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Worn firm fitting in length and width, to help enhance look of feet and prevent foot for sliding or moving in shoe. </li></ul></ul>

Girl's Irish Dance Costume <ul><ul><li>Dresses worn by girls are copies of a traditional Irish peasant dress. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Decorated with lace collar and hand-embroidered Irish designs based on the Book of Kells and Irish stone crosses. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Copies of famous Tara Brooch are worn on shoulder to hold the flowing shawl which falls down over the back. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Bright colors are always used. </li></ul></ul>
  9. 9. Boy's Irish Dance Costume <ul><ul><li>Plain kilt or pants and jacket and a brat, a folded cloak hanging from the shoulder. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Boy's costumes are less decorated then girl's costumes. </li></ul></ul>
  10. 10. Irish Dance Competition <ul><ul><li>Commonly called a Feis, meaning &quot;festival&quot; in Irish. Sometimes called Féile. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Dance competitions are divided by age and level of skill. </li></ul></ul>
