    • Sort rocks from North Canyon into groups
    • Sort rocks from Nankoweap Canyon into groups
    • Make up a descriptive name for each group of rocks
  • 4. Limestone
    • Contains calcite
      • Reacts with hydrochloric acid
      • When scientists observe this reaction they know that one of the minerals in the rock is Calcium Carbonate (calcite) and therefore is Limestone
      • CaCO 3 + 2HCl CaCl 2 + H 2 O + CO 2
  • 5. Sandstone
    • Name geologists give to rocks that are made out of sand particles cemented together
  • 6. Shale
    • Smooth textured rock that doesn’t fizz with acid
