Most Useful Tool I love being organized! My house and my classroom are very simple, tidy and neat. However, my computer isn’t up to those same standards yet. That is until now. My diigo account for bookmarking and sharing is the tool that I find the most useful. Not, only will it help me reach organization goals for my favorite sites, but I get to share and learn from other professionals. Check out my page here:http://www.diigo.com/user/mrskanopka
Twitter Using social media sites is something that I have steered away from for a long time. I was apprehensive about using Twitter until I realized that I would be accessing professional information. Twitter offers a new facet for my teaching. It is a way for me to help and learn from other professional teachers. Once I got the hang of it, I actually enjoyed posting and hope to get more followers as time goes on! Google+ I love the personal learning network that Google has in Google+. I can create circles, write posts and even “hang out” with others. Right now, there isn’t much activity here, but I know it will be a useful tool once I share with others in my school. It will be a great way to collaborate. Web Tools I love finding ways to present lessons in a motivating way for my students. As a 5th grade teacher, we have the students sit through a back to school, grade level assembly to explain all the things that they will take part in because they are the oldest kids in the building. Now, I can give that speech using ZooBurst and the online book I created. Check out my book, titled Snapshots of 5th Grade:http://www.zooburst.com/zb_books-viewer.php?book=zb03_50203d99dd203
Successes The biggest achievement for me was using diigo and putting the tab into my toolbar so I can bookmark with ease. I will use this tool all the time and I hope that it will help me stay more organized with my computer. I am excited about Google+ and hope that as the school year gets moving, I can motivate others to join my community and use it with my parents, students and peers!
Challenges Twitter was the hardest tool for me to use because it is not a one time deal. Twitter needs constant checking, uploading and tweeting for it to be a worthwhile tool. As I learn about social media, I am coming out of my shell as an educator and I know that it will just take a little more time for me to get comfortable with this format.
Online Learning Social Media for Educators is a class that I knew I needed to broaden my horizons as a small scale teacher. I know that the tools I learned about will enhance my teaching and my professional learning. I love online learning and I love the moodle format for this class. Learning online and completing my assignments on moodle is a perfect fit for a busy mom, wife and teacher like me!
Future Applications The year ahead will be so much different for me and for my students. They are in store for great technology lessons. Right off the bat, we will use ZooBurst. Professionally, I can’t wait to use diigo, Google+ and twitter in action as I am teaching, collaborating and sharing with parents!
