New Tools, Great Ideas! Quizz Egg was the tool that I found to be the most useful. There is NEVER enough time in the life of a teacher, so creating online tests and quizzes that I can manage, analyze the reports and use to guide my instruction was an amazing find for me! Another Favorite! Creating an online course was so worthwhile and I enjoyed every step of the process, as it shows the educator what students will have in store for them. I used Haiku LMS to create a course for Ancient China and changed the whole perspective of how students and I will teach and learn about Ancient China! Success #1 Differentiatinghas become an natural part of my lesson planning in 5th grade. I am always looking for ways to incorporate technology in meaningful ways that will motivate my 5th graders. Here are the web tool projects that I made and will use immediately in my class:Voki:http://www.voki.com/pickup.php?scid=6832557&height=267&width=200Twiducate:http://www.twiducate.com/home.php
Success #2 Rubrics are a key component to any unit or grading system. I use them in language arts, math, social studies and science. FINALLY, I have a tool that will help me save time and create rubrics with ease. Here are all the rubrics I created to go with my curriculum using Rubistar:1.http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?&screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=22401212. http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?&screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=22401163. http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?&screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=22401244. http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?&screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=22408405. http://rubistar.4teachers.org/index.php?&screen=ShowRubric&rubric_id=2240848
1 Small Challenge The only challenge that I encountered was finding a way to use Surveys in my classroom. I think that the online tool is amazing and I didn’t find it hard to use at all. My challenge was thinking of something that I could survey my students and remain professional and stay within the parameters of appropriate use of the curriculum. Online surveys and polls seem to fit more naturally with professional development needs than with my curriculum in 5th grade. After much thought, I created a writing survey for my students using Obsurvey:http://obsurvey.com/S2.aspx?id=52732c67-a73d-4b79-9406-824eaa6a3fff
The Future of 5th Grade Kids crave digital media and are used to being able to express themselves using the technology they have around them. The generation of students who I teach have ALWAYS known a world of technology, so I have to make sure that I keep learning so I can keep up with them. Here are the tools that I learned about that I will use immediately in my classroom:1. Twiducate—get kids talking about books and reading.2. Voki—great way to introduce themselves for their individual wiki pages.3. Quizz Egg—students generate quizzes all the time in my room, now they can learn how to do them online.4. Rubistar—students use rubrics like they are second nature and often create them to go along with their projects, now they can do it online!
Online Learning Moodle and online learning are a perfect fit for me. Long gone are the days where sitting for hours and listening to lectures are the norm. This model of learning is exactly what suits my personality. I like being able to access the information I need at my fingertips, have a great teacher resource with my instructor and learn about tools that I will REALLY use in my classroom. I am a huge fan of Moodle and Online Learning!
