Reading Common Core Reading Standards ● Reading Literature/Informational Text ○ Key Ideas and Details ○ Craft and Structure ○ Integration of Knowledge and Ideas ○ Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity ● Revisit standards every three months ● Independent Reading & Reading Responses in Edmodo
  5. 5. Writing Common Core Writing Standards ● Writing Standards ○ Narrative ○ Expository ○ Argumentative/Opinion ~ Claim and Evidence ● Language Standards (grammar) ● Resources - Being a Writer
  6. 6. Mathematical Thinking •Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them •Attend to precision Reasoning and Explaining •Reason abstractly and quantitatively •Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others Modeling Using Tools •Model with mathematics •Use appropriate tools strategically Seeing Structure and Generalizing •Look for and make use of structure •Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning Common Core Mathematical Practices
  7. 7. Math ● Common Core Strands ○ Operations and Algebraic Thinking ○ Number and Operations in Base Ten ○ Number and Operations~Fractions ○ Measurement and Data ○ Geometry ○ Mathematical Practices ● Resources ~ Bridges in Mathematics, Number Corner
  8. 8. Math Facts “Students who attain fluency with basic math facts have far fewer obstacles to building higher-order mathematical skills. Cognitive research indicates that math problem solving occurs in the working memory, which is able to process only a few calculations at a time. A student who cannot fluently grasp the first steps of a multi-step problem may not be able to solve the problem simply because he or she isn’t able to hold the required number of calculations in their working memory. We want students to know math facts much like they recognize sight words in reading ~ automatically, without thinking about them.” ~The Math Learning Center
  9. 9. Social Studies Geography ● Using the Five Themes of Geography Government ● Three Branches of Government Regions of the United States ● See the USA World Geography ● Caravans 2.0
  10. 10. ECHO ● Everyone Can Help Others ● Fourth grade service learning ● Completely student developed and led from beginning to end with guidance
