  2. 2. Thesis <ul><li>Many people does not fully understand what this disorder actually is. </li></ul><ul><li>Dissociative identity disorder not only brings suffering to the patients, but to everyone around them and others. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Background <ul><li>What is dissociative identity disorder? </li></ul><ul><li>Symptoms of this disorder. </li></ul><ul><li>Treatments </li></ul><ul><li>The actual cause </li></ul>
  4. 4. What is it? <ul><li>It is also known as the multiple personality disorder </li></ul><ul><li>Many personalities within a single body. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The personalities take over the body occasionally and the person appears to be someone else. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>“ splitting” minds. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The personality splits up and makes alters </li></ul></ul>

Cause & Treatment? <ul><li>Severe trauma attack. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Studies show that many find themselves with DID after a trauma attack. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Child abuse </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Wanting to escape from reality. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Therapist </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Seek help by going to a therapist who would help the patient go through a session. </li></ul></ul>
  6. 6. What’s the difference? <ul><li>Physical properties. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Weak or strong? </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Age, gender, race. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Female or male? Age 6-90? </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Each personality have their distinct characterist. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Glasses? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Left or right handed? </li></ul></ul>

Physical Pain <ul><li>Drug addict or alcoholic? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The personalities could vary. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Sleep disorder </li></ul><ul><ul><li>May switch one personality to another but the body does not actually rest. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Suicidal attempts </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Lose sense of reality. </li></ul></ul>
  8. 8. Mental Sufferings <ul><li>Sleep apnea </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Lack of sleep </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Amnesia </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Memory lose, cannot recall information </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Identity confusion </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Random emotions and feelings. </li></ul></ul>

Family <ul><li>Difficulties </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Responsible to take care of the paitient </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Controlling the person </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Have to watch over the person and make sure he/she is not doing anything dangerous </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Meeting the “new” son/daughter </li></ul><ul><ul><li>When new personalities emerge, he/she may not recognize you and act aggressively towards you. </li></ul></ul>

Family <ul><li>Heart breaking </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Knowing that your loved one is in pain brings pain to yourself too. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Sleep apnea </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Taking care of the patient </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Financial support </li></ul><ul><ul><li>To seek help and afford medication </li></ul></ul>

Now, the community. <ul><li>Conflict to society </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Criminal personality. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Violent and aggressive characters </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Varity in the alters. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Confusion to the police </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Different physical properties. </li></ul></ul>

So, can it be cured? <ul><li>Unfortunately, there is no cure. </li></ul><ul><li>Seek psychiatrist. </li></ul><ul><li>Cases of patients that are in control of body but not fully cured. </li></ul><ul><li>Other disorders could appear due to DID. </li></ul><ul><li>It’s a long process. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Estimated around 5 years. </li></ul></ul>
  13. 13. Do something! <ul><li>Not much money has put into the research for this disorder. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Only a small percentage of people has it. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>However, it has a big impact on the patient, their families and even their communities. </li></ul><ul><li>Get to know the disorder and not let it ruin the lives of the innocents. </li></ul>
