What is Creativity?• Creativity is the ability to see the same thingsas everyone else but think something different.• Creativity involves the translation of our uniquegifts and talents into something that is bothnew and useful.• Creativity is an important element in findingnew ways to do old things and ways to dothings yet undone.
  3. 3. Definition (wikipedia)• Creativity is a mental and social processinvolving the discovery of new ideas orconcepts, or new associations of thecreative mind between existing ideas orconcepts.

Components of creativity• Knowledge – all the relevant understanding anindividual bring to bear on a creative effort.• Creative thinking – related to how peopleapproach problem and depends on personalityand thinking or work style.• Motivation – generally accepted as a key tocreative production, and the most important areintrinsic passion and interest in the work itself.

Barriers to Creativity• Self-constraining beliefs – the participantmakes the problem more difficult byassuming certain constraining conditionsthat do not exist.• Fears, beliefs, and stresses – people thatfear criticism or have strong beliefs mayhave limited ability to be “free” and creative.• Routines and rigidity – this may inhibit theinformation gathering, interactions, andincubation of thought that leads to creativity.
