For this assignment you will complete a biomechanical analysis of your own performance in the freestyle swimming stroke. You must identify aspects of your stroke that are inefficient. Your evaluation must include a discussion of how you can improve the efficiency of your freestyle swimming stroke to maximize your swimming speed. Your analysis should consider the following areas covered in class:
The phases/stages of movement
Summation of forces
Types of motion – propulsion
The effects of resistance
Centre of gravity – buoyancy
Levers
**In order to complete your biomechanical analysis you will need to videotape yourself performing the freestyle swimming stroke**
Suggested Format:
Introduction:
Introduce the reason for your report and briefly describe key points from your body paragraphs
Body 1
Describe the biomechanical principles that you have selected to evaluate your stroke efficiency
Body 2
Evaluate the efficiency of your freestyle swimming stroke using the biomechanical principles you have highlighted in ‘Body 1’
Identify your strengths and weaknesses
The use of diagrams may be helpful
Body 3
Identify ways in which you can improve your freestyle swimming stroke efficiency and maximize your swimming speed
Conclusion
Restate the strengths and weaknesses that you have identified in your freestyle swimming stroke and your recommendations for future training to make improvements
**Remember to reference your work!**
DimensionStandard A (VHA)Standard B (HA)Standard C (SA)Standard D (LA)Standard E (VLA)AcquiringThe student:- Accurately and consistently recalls and comprehends a wide range of relevant information related to the biomechanical principles associated with freestyle swimming- Demonstrates accurate and sustained use of textual features within the report style of writing. The student:- Accurately a recalls and comprehends a range of relevant information related to the biomechanical principles associated with freestyle swimming- Demonstrates accurate use of textual features within the report style of writing. The student:- Recalls and comprehends a range of relevant information related to the biomechanical principles associated with freestyle swimming- Demonstrates use of textual features with few errors within the report style of writing. The student:- Recalls and comprehends basic information related to the biomechanical principles associated with freestyle swimming- Uses textual features within the report style of writing however, there are some errors evidentThe student:- Recalls basic information related to the biomechanical principles associated with freestyle swimming- Uses textual features within the report style of writing however, there are many errors evidentApplyingThe student:- Consistently and accurately analyses, interprets and manipulates information to identify biomechanical inefficiencies when performing the freestyle stroke.- Independently develops a highly effective discussion examining biomechanical principles relating to their individual freestyle performance. The student:- Accurately analyses, interprets and manipulates information to identify biomechanical inefficiencies when performing the freestyle stroke.- Successfully develops an effective discussion examining biomechanical principles relating to their individual freestyle performance. The student:- Analyses, interprets and manipulates information to identify biomechanical inefficiencies when performing the freestyle stroke.- Develops an appropriate discussion examining key biomechanical principles relating to their individual freestyle performance. The student:- Presents information identifying a few basic biomechanical inefficiencies when performing the freestyle stroke.- Develops a discussion examining basic biomechanical principles relating to their individual freestyle performance. The student:- Attempts to provide some information identifying a few basic biomechanical inefficiencies when performing the freestyle stroke.- Attempts to develop a simple discussion examining basic biomechanical principles relating to their individual freestyle performance.EvaluatingThe student:- Independently produces credible and convincingly justified solutions on improving the efficiency of their freestyle swimming strokeThe student:- Produces credible and justified solutions on improving the efficiency of their freestyle swimming strokeThe student:- Produces appropriate solutions with some justification on improving the efficiency of their freestyle swimming stroke. The student:- Produces a few solutions with minimal justification on improving the efficiency of their freestyle swimming stroke. The student:- Produces a few solutions on improving the efficiency of their freestyle swimming stroke.
