  • Religion
    • Judaism is a set of beliefs and practices originating in the Jewish Bible and explored and explained in later texts such as the Talmud.
    • Christianity is a monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
    • Islam is the religion articulated by the Qu’ran a book considered by its adherents to be the verbatim word of the single incomparable God (Allah), and by the Islamic prophetet Muhammad's demonstrations and real-life examples (called the Sunnah, collected through narration of his companions in collections of Hadith). An adherent of Islam is a Muslim, meaning "one who submits to God"
    • Islamic is mainly one of the most important religions in South West Asia
  • Religion(continued) Jerusalem-The Holy City
    • The City of Jerusalem, which covers 42 square miles, has Jewish, Christian, Armenian Christian, and Muslim sections.Followers of all three religions come to the Old City to visit locations with strong spiritual meaning.
    • Why is Jerusalem considered a holy city to each major monotheistic religion?
    • Those that follow the religion of Judaism believe that Jerusalem is the center of their modern and ancient homeland
    • People that follow the religion of Christianity believe that Jerusalem is the sacred location of the final suffering and crucifixion of Jesus
    • Those that follow the religion of Islam believe that Jerusalem was the spot where the Prophet Muhammad rose into Heaven
  • HISTORY
    • The history for southwest Asia is that the first South West oil was in 1908 in Persia which is today Iran.
    • In 1938, oil companies found more oil fields in the Arabian Peninsula and Persian Gulf but , World War II interrupted further exploring.
    • In 1948, oil companies discovered what would become one of the world’s biggest oil fields at Al-Ghawar. This field contained more than one quarter of all Saudi Arabia’s reserves of oil.

  • - People of each nation have acce ss to a higher ed ucation and job training -Today, abo ut half the world’s oil reserves are in Southwest Asia, along the coast of the Persi an Gulf

    • There are a number of countries who are in the western asia and don’t get enough freedom but some say that they shouldn’t get any because there not worth it.
    • People have argued that there shouldn’t be any rights at all for anyone.If there is then it has to be equal.
    • The classical liberal of characteristics of democracy require a multiplicity of parties representing and competing policy agendas and clear alternatives.
    • Limitations on government authority and guaranteed rights of free expression and association.

    • The culture of Southwest Asia is the artificial aggregate of the cultural heritage of many nationalities, societies, religions, and ethnic groups in the region, traditionally called a continent from a Western-centric perspective.
    • Art, music ,and cuisine as well as literature, are important parts of Asian culture. Eastern philosophy and religion also plays a major role, One of the most complex parts of South West Asian culture is the relationship between traditional cultures and the Western World.

    • Rapid development of technology undermined traditional lifestyles (e.g. trucks replaced camels and malls replaced marketplaces).
    • Villagers, farmers, and nomads migrated to cities (e.g. 83 % of Saudi population is urban).Oil jobs require skilled workers from outside the region.

    • Ethnic & Religious Variety-
    • Sub-region’s ethnic groups include: Turks, Kurds, Persians, and Assyrians.
    • Languages in the sub-regions include Turkish and Farsi.
    • Most groups are Islamic (which is broken into two branches).
    • Nearly 83% of all Muslims are Sunni.
    • Most Iranians are Shi’ites.
  • Modern Issues of Southwest Asia
    • -Because of the oil profit the population grew even more.
    • -In the 21 st century, oil fueled industries, transportation, and its economy.The black gold was so rare that other nations were ready for a war to get it.
      • -There was a lot of oil found underneath the sea. People started to buy oil factories and because of that, lots of people from different countries came and the population grew.
    • -To fill in the job openings, people were called from the South and East Asia. They were called “guest workers” they are mostly unskilled laborers.
