How did Germany recover between 1924 and 1929? - Presentation Transcript

  1. WEIMAR GERMANY 1924-1929 How did Germany recover between 1924-1929?
  2. Effects of the Economic Crisis Many people in Germany suffered because of the incredible increase in prices and the worthless German mark. The vast majority of people were now BLAMING the Weimar Government for the numerous problems that Germany had experienced. Parties such as the Nazi Party were beginning to gain popularity. However, such support began to decrease as Germany recovered from the economic crisis. But how did the economy recover? Ayup! I’m Gustav Stresemann and I’m a very clever bloke – especially when it comes to business matters. I saved the day for the Weimar Govt.”
  3. “ I got rid of the old German ‘Mark’ and replaced it with a brand new currency called the ‘Rentenmark’. This brought confidence back to the banking system!” “ I put Germany back into business by calling off the ‘passive resistance’ campaign in the Ruhr and promised to start paying reparations again” Stresemann tip No. 1: “ Get Germany back to Business!”
  4. Stresemann tip No. 2: “ Borrow money to create German jobs!” “ Ayup…. Lend us some money will you?” “ OK, but I want it all back if we run into any trouble of our own!”
  5. The Dawes Plan “ I was able to persuade the USA, France and Britain to pay back only what we could afford. Stresemann tip No. 3: “ Renegotiate the Reparations Payments The Young Plan “ This helped Germany out even more as the payments were reduced as they gave us much longer to pay it!”
  6. THE RESULT JOBS WERE CREATED THE ECONOMY BECAME STABLE & GERMANY PROSPERED SUPPORT FOR THE NAZI PARTY WENT DOWN GERMANY BECAME DEPENDENT ON LOANS FROM THE USA
  7. What comes next? The Collapse of the Weimar Republic Why did the German people turn away from the Weimar Politicians?
