Introduction <ul><li>Samurai's swords were fashioned with the most care and talent. </li></ul><ul><li>Their bows were made of hard timber and was very sturdy. </li></ul><ul><li>Their armor was made of metal pieces. </li></ul><ul><li>The samurai's sword, bow, and armor were very interesting things in the history of Japan </li></ul>

Armor <ul><li>Armor has been around for a long time, but the samurai’s armor is by far the most complex and protective piece of armor created in that time period. </li></ul><ul><li>The samurai’s armor was made of metal scales woven together with rawhide and silk. </li></ul><ul><li>The kabuto is the helmet. The helmet was designed and decorated with different items to show power and to intimidate the enemy. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Swords <ul><li>There was no closer bond between a weapon and man in history then the samurai and their sword. The samurai sword is so associated with the samurai that they called it the soul of the samurai. </li></ul><ul><li>The art of making a samurai sword was very hard and difficult it took over a year to create one samurai sword. </li></ul><ul><li>Main sword that the samurai used was called the Tachi </li></ul><ul><li>To make a samurai sword it took great patience and a pure heart. </li></ul><ul><li>The sword was made of one soft metal coated in another harder metal. The sword is then hammered into shape and then put into a fire. Once the metal was heated to the correct temperature it was carefully dipped I cold water to harden it if it was not around the right temperature the samurai sword would warp (bend) and months of hard work would be lost and wasted. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Bow <ul><li>The first samurai were meant as mounted archers. </li></ul><ul><li>The only place a bow could kill in one shot was between the enemy’s eyes. It took many more if it was not hit between the eyes because of the armor that the samurai would be wearing. </li></ul><ul><li>The bow was the most important weapon that the samurai used in the formative years. </li></ul>

Religion <ul><li>Religion had much to do with the way the samurai fought and lived. </li></ul><ul><li>Often in their sword making they would put personality in it. </li></ul><ul><li>The samurai often kept their swords, armor, and bows neatly polished. They fought in an honorable way and believed that “sin” or wrong doing is a sign of uncleanliness and disgrace to everyone above him in rank. </li></ul>

Traditions of Sword and Samurai <ul><li>To enter a friend’s house without taking off your sword is considered a breach of friendship and the friend would be insulted. </li></ul><ul><li>Every samurai was required to wear two swords. </li></ul><ul><li>If a samurai was to lose his sword he would be greatly dishonored and was required to commit seppuku. </li></ul><ul><li>If a samurai was to lose his sword he would be greatly dishonored and was required to commit seppuku. </li></ul>
