3. NOT ‘Personal’
NOT about the individual student - so remove the name.
An indication of the grade (points score) achieved on average by students
of similar ability in the previous year
NOT a ‘Prediction’ .
NOT a prediction of the grade the student will get – refer to them as
indicators of recent success

Data used to inform, not replace, professional judgement
4. Recommendations
How can we use this data to identify over/under achievers?
I will add the ‘prediction’ to SIMS marksheets for the specific class
so that it will be more visual.
How can we use this data to set targets for individuals or classes?
We should use the chances graphs as one factor in setting targets
for students and giving them a sense of where they are heading.
5. Recommendations
What data should we share with the student (if any?)
The ‘prediction’ should not be shared. The chances graphs can be
shared – but the student name should be removed. The discussion
and target setting should use the language of ‘other students with a
similar score have gone on to get the following – where would you
like to be?’.
What data should we share with parents (if any?)
CEM data will not be shared directly with parents – the targets set
as a result of discussions involving CEM data may be.
6. Recommendations
What is the role of the HOD / HOF / HOG in all of this?
As data / chances graphs / predictions are subject specific, target
setting should come through the subject teacher route – rather than
form tutors/pastoral route.
HOD / HOG to encourage discussion of CEM data at different
levels and to encourage? Insist-upon? target setting with students
early in the academic year.
Targets can be revisited at least annually – as CEM MIDYIS data is
updated annually.
