    1. 1. Introduction to Digestion A jellyfish's mouth is also its anus.
    2. 2. Think. Pair. Share. What happens to food when we eat it? 1) Ingestion 2) Digestion 3) Absorption 4) Egestion
    3. 3. Ingestion 1) Ingestion is the consumption of food. Food becomes bolus.
    4. 4. Introduction to Digestion 2) Digestion is the breaking-down of food. It can be mechanical (chewing, tearing) or chemical (acids and enzymes).
    5. 5. Introduction to Digestion 3) Absorption occurs when nutrients are taken out of the food for the body. These projections absorb nutrients from food that brushes past them.
    6. 6. Introduction to Digestion 4) Egestion is the removal of waste and unabsorbed food.
    7. 7. Introduction to Digestion Different animals have different digestive systems. For instance, jellyfish have "bag" systems. Some worms and birds must swallow rocks to help break-down food in their gizzards.
    8. 8. Introduction to Digestion Humans are more complex, but the goal is the same.
