In 2008, Yolande Moreau starred as Séraphine in the French biographical film Séraphine by director Martin Provost and won in 2009 a César, (the French Oscar), as Best Actress for her performance. The film won a total of seven Césars, including Best Film. Seraphine Louis (Seraphine de Senlis) (1864-1942) was a French painter naïf style, (naive). Her career was relatively short and later Louis entered the Clermont-de-l'Oise area of psychiatry to the end of her life. One of the many acts of barbarism committed by the Germans which have arrayed most of the civilized world against them has been the destruction of unprotected and helpless towns. Senlis suffered such a fate and the story of her sufferings may be cited as a typical example of the German policy of "frightfulness." Séraphine Louis (Séraphine de Senlis) (1864–1942) fue una pintora francesa de estilo naïf, (ingenuo). Había sido pastora y hacia sevicio de servidumbre cuando su obra fue descubierta en 1912 por el coleccionista de arte Wilhelm Uhde. Durante su estancia en Senlis, Uhde vio una naturaleza muerta de manzanas en la casa de su casera, y se quedó estupefacto al enterarse de que Louis, la encargada de la limpieza, era la artista. Bajo la protección de Uhde, Louis alcanzó importancia como una de las pintoras naïf del momento. Las obras de Louis son de arreglos florales muy fantasiosos. Su carrera fue relativamente corta. In 1930, three years after the first exposure Louis, Uhde stopped buying her paintings because of the Great Depression. Louis entered the Clermont-de-l'Oise area of geriatric psychiatry at a hospital, and although Uhde reported that she died in 1934, Louis actually survived until 1942, alone and friendless.
