One leading cause to hearing loss inchildren is when a baby is bornprematurely. When they are born tooearly their ears aren’t fully developedmaking it harder for the them to hear.
Heredity is a leading cause to hearing loss, it ismore than 50% of all hearing loss causes. For achild to become deaf both parents have to havethe recessive gene and pass it to the their child.
Approximately every day33 babies are bornprofoundly deaf or withsome type of hearing loss.That is 12,045 babies ayear.
An estimated 36 million people in the United States have hearing loss, which is one in every ten people.
TAKE ACTIONThe earlier hearing loss is detected the easier theoutcome of speech and language development. if youknow someone who just had a baby tell them totake a scan or hearing test. its the one way tobecome aware of hard of hearing or deaf.
TAKE ACTION!!! Talk to your friends or neighborswho might know someone withhearing loss of a family with a childwho has hearing loss.
PREVENTIONWhen you are listening to music don’t have it blasting inyour ear, so that the person next to you can’t hear it.Every year 10 percent of adults and children who usethere ipods are using them too loud and are introducingthemselves to a road of hard of hearing.
