  2. 2. Vision <ul><li>Important to know why and how technology will be used </li></ul><ul><li>Staff often looks for justification rather than just blindly following an idea </li></ul>
  3. 3. Planning <ul><li>Technology is always changing for the better </li></ul><ul><li>When planning, this must be considered </li></ul><ul><li>Identify key components to a program and focus on fundamentals </li></ul>
  4. 4. Access <ul><li>Important to ensure that technology is accessible for all </li></ul><ul><li>This includes those with disabilities </li></ul><ul><li>Consider that not every student has a computer </li></ul>
  5. 5. Integration <ul><li>Technology should be used as a large part of lesson—not just an add on </li></ul><ul><li>Should be used in a way in which it is needed </li></ul><ul><ul><li>This means that the technology allows a lesson to be done that could otherwise not be accomplished </li></ul></ul>
  6. 6. Assessment and Evaluation <ul><li>With the new technologies in classrooms, it is difficult to define clear standards </li></ul><ul><li>Teachers must be flexible and try new ideas in assessment </li></ul><ul><li>Look for types of data that are relevant for assessment </li></ul>
  7. 7. Support <ul><li>Many teachers are not trained in the programs that they are encouraged to use </li></ul><ul><li>This keeps many teachers away from technology </li></ul>
  8. 8. Support, Cont. <ul><li>Proper training must occur </li></ul><ul><li>Must find a way to make training and accessibility easy </li></ul>
  9. 9. Professional Development <ul><li>Schools often get new equipment, but do not train on how to use it </li></ul><ul><li>Hands-on training works better than ‘introductory sessions’ </li></ul><ul><li>Failure to provide training results in technology not being used </li></ul>
  10. 10. Community Relationships <ul><li>Community should realize that using technology helps students develop important skills </li></ul><ul><ul><li>These skills are required in most jobs </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Should work with schools to plan and implement technology strategies </li></ul>
  11. 11. Ethical and Legal Issues <ul><li>Copyright and plagiarism are the two main issues </li></ul><ul><li>Students must be careful with information they put online </li></ul><ul><li>Schools use ‘acceptable use’ agreement form when dealing with technology </li></ul>
