  • 1. Physical Spaces and PLN’s at BCLUW Libraries

  • 2. The School and Staff
    • BCLUW is a consolidation of three schools in two small rural towns.
    • Cari Teske (left) is the teacher librarian for all three buildings. Peg (right) is her high school associate.
  • 3. The Changing Role of Physical Spaces
    • Their high school has had a 1:1 laptop program for the past three years.
    • Cari saw a need to change the physical spaces in the library so they were more usable for 21st Century Skills.

    • Cafe tables in the library, booths and tables directly outside the library
  • 5. Virtual Reality lab
    • A dedicated room to Virtual Reality has led to collaboration across towns
  • 6. Green Screen and podcasting room
    • space dedicated to podcasting and movie making, skype also utilized
  • 7. Collaboration leads to a great collection
    • This is one small piece of the YAC collection, displayed for student use
  • 8. library arrangement facilitates use
    • flexible, varied seating and pull down screen for Book club
  • 9. new elementary shelving
    • arranged for student accessibility
  • 10. designed with children in mind
    • group areas balanced with fun kid spaces
  • 11. Library spaces are open and flexible
    • library design required planning and advocacy

    • a computer lab, laptops, and free standing computers are used by students
  • 13. Professional Learning Networks
    • Cari uses PLN’s extensively to stay connected with educators around Iowa and the world.
    • BCLUW has collaborated with teachers in Sweden. Cari has begun a book club with a class in Oregon.
    • Cari is constantly searching for new technologies to benefit her students and assist the staff in providing best instruction.
