  2. 2. MIKE PECEN Portfolio HISTORICVilla Finale San Antonio,TX A prominent preservationist left his home to the National Trust to become a museum. The landscape he designed for the fineVictorian house was suffering from deferred maintenance and years of overgrowth. I applied cultural landscape report findings to the site, formulating strategies to revive the original designer’s vision and prepare the site for visitor traffic. WithTBG Partners.
  3. 3. MIKE PECEN Portfolio RECREATION Presidio Recreation Center San Antonio,TX A Mediterranean-influenced pool house on the Balcones escarpment called for a xeric, largely native planting design with splashy exotics. The classical-form pool and surrounding hardscape balance visual interest and user safety. WithTBG Partners.
  4. 4. d PEDESTRIAN UNDERPASS c PEDESTRIAN PATH & OVERPASS VEGETATIVE BUFFERS PROGRAMS MIKE PECEN Portfolio PARK & TRAIL Across MoPac Expressway Austin,TX Just north of Austin’s Town Lake, the junction of MoPac Expressway, several streets and Johnson Branch forms a great barrier to pedestrian and bicycle movement, while offering experiences of wild nature seldom found inside the city. Proposed are a new pedestrian/cyclist bridge and additions to the existing trail network. In culvert sections of the trail, video projections of rushing water on the floor give users an experience they could never enjoy safely otherwise. Isolated areas under the free- way ramps hold climbing walls for users at different skill levels.
  5. 5. MIKE PECEN Portfolio PLANNING Campus Identity San Antonio,TX We helped an interdisciplinary team by analyzing existing conditions with regard to landscape structure and signage and providing proposals for phased improvements. I conducted much of the analysis and prepared reports and the graphics shown. WithTBG Partners.
  6. 6. MIKE PECEN Portfolio RECREATION Austonian Roof Garden Austin,TX A one-acre green roof overlooks downtown Austin and Lady Bird Lake at the tallest residential tower west of the Mississippi. I designed all plantings on this intensive green roof, tailoring them to harsh microclimates, modern design and sophisticated user tastes. WithTBG Partners.

  8. 8. MIKE PECEN Portfolio MIXED USE Competition Winner San Antonio,TX This LEED Platinum scheme won Third Place in the Emerging Green Builders competition, sponsored by the US Green Building Council Central Texas–Balcones Chapter. Our collaboration on this San Antonio project yielded a fully programmed solution, indoors and out, to provide residents an environmentally friendly, economically sustain- able, socially equitable community. With Consortium Lumina. ALLOTMENT GARDENS ROOFTOP ENTRY COURT
  9. 9. MIKE PECEN Portfolio RESIDENTIAL Hacienda Solara Austin,TX Xeric, mostly native plantings nestle this passive solar home into its Texas Hill Country surroundings. Simple galvanized steel and aluminum materials subtly evoke ranch life with a modern approach. This garden was designed for active dogs and chickens to share with people. With PaloVerde and Consortium Lumina.
  10. 10. MIKE PECEN Portfolio CAMPUS Texas State University San Marcos,TX The university sought to relocate vehicular traffic from the busy center of campus. We proposed replacing the existing streets with a network of pedestrian-oriented walks and plazas, while negotiating difficult grades and improving stormwater handling through vegetation and pavement selections. WithTBG Partners.
  11. 11. MIKE PECEN Portfolio PLANNED COMMUNITY Cinco Ranch Southwest Katy,TX A network of parks and open spaces is part of what makes this planned community the top-selling housing development in the country. Thoughtfully shaped landforms and carefully chosen plant palettes create a rich spatial and sensory experience. I designed grading, hard- scapes and plantings for multiple open spaces in the development. WithTBG Partners.
