Moving Forward - Presentation from Nov 19 dinner

 1. 2. Fact An association’s role is to deliver on your investment, not to only be a logo on your letterhead
 2. 3. Fact An association’s role is to be there for all of you and not a selected few
 3. 4. Fact An association’s role is to make your job running your companies easier
 4. 6. Why us ? … because we are your group Your group has years of hands on & in-depth experience of working in national & international associations This is a group of professionals with proven track records of running successful companies We bring you experiences & qualifications to meet the needs of today We bring you unquestionable integrity and honesty We have a passion for work to make a difference for you
 5. 7. Get to know us “ I am very confident in the team with me to help shoulder the responsibilities and help us all achieve our common goals. In my eyes there are no big or small companies, no active or allied members but only stakeholders in our great industry who are working in their own way in trying to make a difference. I am proud to be a part of IATO and hope you all will give me the opportunity to once again humbly contribute to the best of my abilities for the success of our association.” Subhash Goyal wants to be your President
 6. 8. Get to know us Sarabjit Singh wants to be your Senior Vice President “ Unlike in the past many IATO administrations, this is the first time a team has been formed with some many skilled and experienced people. This team will have a power that has never been seen before and have a will to do things without fear. No one in this team has personal agendas and no one has to prove anything to anyone. I am standing by people who will take on any situation head on and I am proud to have this opportunity to serve my national association.”
 7. 9. Get to know us Rajeev Kohli wants to be your Vice President “ An association’s job is to deliver on the members investment in their membership. We need to move association away from just being a logo on a business card to a facilitator of business. IATO has seen a steep decline in its active member participation over the past four years. This needs to be reversed before we start losing members and become irrelevant. I am tired of having to struggle every day in our business. I want change. I want a new vision.”
 8. 10. Get to know us Lally Mathews wants to be your Honorary Secretary “ Change is needed not for the sake of it. Change is needed because today we are all in a position where our businesses are fragile. You need a leadership that has been in your shoes, who operates in your levels, who understands your needs. You need a leadership that worked at the grassroots level. Time is running out and unless the industry takes corrective action now, it may be too late.”
 9. 11. Get to know us Arun Anand wants to be your Honorary Treasurer “ I have worked in the past under Mr Goyal’s leadership. I have seen his passion & his honesty. I am hurt at the state of affairs today. I want to bring in greater accountability & transparency in how your money is handled. You need to have greater reporting. You need to have answers to your questions. With this team, I know these changes will finally be possible. New systems will be introduced that will set a permanent clean way of working for the future.”
 10. 12. Get to know us Lajpat Rai wants to be your Honorary Joint Secretary “ I think India needs to focus some more on short haul markets which are quite frankly doing much better than the west. Our government & our association have long ignored this and this is hurting our industry. Our over reliance on the west has created a situation today where our industry is hurting due to their weak economies. Better focus on new and emerging markets is what I will push for. Along with my colleagues we hope to add a bit of experience in how we can focus our efforts better.”
 11. 13. Get to know us Rajiv Mehra , if anyone has been to an IATO convention in the past 15 years, there has been one constant – the smiling faces of Rajiv Mehra and his family. It is recognised that Rajiv has single handily run IATO’s convention registration & accommodation services flawlessly in every past convention for 17 years. E.M. Najeeb has been IATO South India Chapter head for over a decade. Najeeb’s induction into our team as a EC member is clear indication of our desire to bring in great communication with our members across the country and give new direction to the way chapters are handled. Najeeb is one of the founding members of the Kerala Travel Mart and is also President of the Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry (CKTI) apart from being actively involved with many other development bodies. Rajiv Mehra & E.M. Najeeb want your vote for EC Active Rajiv Mehra E.M. Najeeb
 12. 14. Get to know us Amaresh Tiwari brings in a new school of thought and represents the long ignored newer companies of the industry. Amaresh has been working in the industry for over 18 years and jumped into the fray after sheer frustration of seeing his business go in circles. He wants to see IATO become the premier national body of Tourism Industry, governed by members and run professionally. He wants IATO to look at setting-up mechanisms which draw the rules, regulations, liability clause, etc for the industry. Ramesh Wattal is another old industry hand who has joined the team to make a difference. With over 31 years of experience under his belt, Ramesh has seen it all. His vision to IATO ? “To see IATO as the highest Pan-India body representing & accrediting tour operators. If elected, he hopes to help streamline communication channels between members leading to balanced & sustainable growth. Amaresh Tiwari & Ramesh Wattal want your vote for EC Active Ramesh Wattal Amaresh Tiwari
 13. 15. Get to know us Ravi Gosain is another representative of the new face of our industry. Totally charged up and ready to get into the thick of things, He says if elected he will work on making small & midsized operators feel proud to be a member of IATO. He believes that tourism has given him the best career he could have. As a young entrepreneur as well as first generation businessman, he passed through all challenges to establish himself a successful tour operator. Who doesn’t know the banna in Mumbai, Narendra Singh Rathor . He is synonymous with quality ground handling & has been serving active members as a partner for over 35 years. Narendra has been a past EC member and chapter leader for the past 14 years. He has always been a team player, supporting IATO in his region by solving problems of all partners and suppliers. His company, Narendra wants IATO to be a true representative of the membership in the Industry as a whole and the members of the executive body work towards resolving challenges being faced by us on day to day basis. . Ravi Gosain want your vote for EC Active & N.S. Rathor f or EC Allied N.S. Rathor Ravi Gosain
 14. 16. Get to know us O.P. Mendiratta or OP to his friends is one man who is forever smiling. Politer than polite, OP has been a strong support of the industry. With over 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, he has also been a past EC member of IATO. He was also the General Secretary of the Unit Hotel Forum as well as Joint Secretary of HRANI. OP has always been a strong advocate of co-operation rather than only competition. His hobby – to serve his guests. Sunil Gupta has always been there for our members. His company, Travel Bureau is today one of the most successful handling agents in UP state, working with many IATO members. He has served IATO as Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh chapter and is also former President of the ‘Tourism Guild of Agra'. His vision for IATO is to build a strong, enduring relationship between the significant increasing number of allied members and the active IATO membership. . O.P. Mendiratta & Sunil Gupta want your vote for EC Allied Sunil Gupta O.P. Mendiratta
 15. 17. On Continuity… This is what we call Continuity in Experience If continuity means experience, let’s discuss that. IS THAT NOT CONTINUITY IN EXPERIENCE? To add to this CONTINUUITY OF EXPERIENCE , we have brought in new blood who have new ideas, a new passion. We wanted to have a mix of the experience and years with the excitement of a larger outreach to members who have never been touched by IATO before.

Subhash Goyal

15 years association leadership

3 terms at IATO President

Served ASSOCAM, PHD etc

Rajeev Kohli

10 years of association leadership

President of ASTA India Chapter

Elected to rep all Asia International board of SITE.

Rajiv Mehra

Has run key areas in 17 annual conventions

O.P. Najeeb

Co-found the Kerala Travel Mart.

15+ years as IATO Chapter President

Co-found the Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry

Is on the board of many others associations

Lajpat Rai

1 term as IATO Treasurer

3 times IATO EC member.

..plus we have brought in new faces who bring new ideas, a new passion & determination .
 16. 18. Ask yourself.. Do you feel IATO currently lacks Vision and foresight ? Has IATO lost its Focus from its core objectives ? Is there a lack of New Ideas and Initiatives ? Is being an office bearer a main criteria to be re-elected ? We Will... Bring extensive experience of running successful businesses & organisations… Create a long term Vision & strategy plan for IATO… Create a forum for New Ideas…
 17. 19. Ask yourself.. Why has Active membership participation in our annual conventions dropped ? Why is Active member participation in monthly meetings insignificant ? Why are there no Active member meetings for us to discuss issues? We Will... Bring back Active members to the center of IATO’s key deliberations…
 18. 20. Secretive IATO.. Where do all the business opportunities that IATO receives go to ? Why are there no minutes of monthly meetings circulated to members ? Why don’t we approve a budget for annual expenses? Why haven't past losses been explained ? Why are we rubber-stamping ministry policies against the interest of the members ? Why is there no transparency in the functioning of IATO ? We Will... Bring in greater transparency & accountability in IATO… Ensure timely sharing of opportunities to members…
 19. 21. Professionalism in IATO.. All successful associations are run by professional secretariats. Why is IATO different ? Why is IATO micro managed by a handful of members ? We Will... Work on a strategy to revamp the IATO secretariat and hire a full time professional head on the lines of PATA, ASTA, NASSCOM, CII etc… Ensure that IATO operates independently of changing office bearers with stability and fairness in its functioning…
 20. 22. Technologically Dumb… Why is the IATO Technology platform so poor and outdated ? Why is there no use of technology at IATO for the benefits of its members ? We Will... Use technology as a powerful tool for business for members… Update the IATO webs-site to make it a world class product… Make the website interactive with features such as consumer sections for lead generation, blogs, bulletin boards and other features… Actively market IATO on the internet including linkages with other international federations …
 21. 23. Narrow Minded… Why hasn't IATO grown outside Delhi NCR ? How can we claim to be national ? Why have chapter requests for funding and authority been continuously ignore ? Is IATO able to address the needs of the travel industry in other parts of the country ? We Will... Bring in a more broad based representation and Create strategies to grow membership from other regions with greater participation in IATO activities… We will create a more unified body…
 22. 24. Cold Wars… Why do we have weak relationships with the hotel industry ? Why are we not able to work as partners with other industry associations ? Why do our members suffer ? We Will... Create better relationships between our association and with that of hotels, guides, airlines and other suppliers… Create synergies with other national associations for all of us to work together for mutual benefits on matters at a national level We will make the Industry Confederation a reality !
 23. 25. Money Matters… Why is IATO not utilizing its funds to their potential ? Why are not the existing resources being utilized for activities that benefit the members ? What is being done with all that Lunch money ? We Will... Focus IATO’s financial budgets on activities that benefit members… Dedicate a portion of annual receipts for activities that are targeted towards generating business leads for the members…
 24. 26. Better Conventions… Why have our last 3 Conventions been ignored by the Tourism Minister ? Why are the annual conventions no more than a big party ? Why are there no educational opportunities at any of the conventions ? Where re the active members ? We Will... Bring a focus of business and learning to IATO’s annual conventions and Monthly Luncheons and improve their overall quality…
 25. 27. Behaving Maturely… Why don’t we have a travel industry Crisis Management Policy ? Why don’t we have a IATO Crisis management team in place to assist members in a time of need ? Why don’t we have a process in place to communicating messages to media when events happen that affect the travel industry ? What will IATO do for members when events happen that affect our business ? We Will... Create a professional Crisis Management Policy as well as a Crisis Management Team that will address issues necessary to help members of all sizes in a time of need…
 26. 28. We Promise… "Joy, enthusiasm, celebration, satisfaction, optimism, love, camaraderie ... these are the emotions we should have in us. These are the feelings we want to bring back into our lives. This is why this group of individuals decided that it is time for change and time for a new vision & new direction. We need a vibrant, visionary and transparent IATO” Remember the Date Saturday, 3rd December 2011 at 11 am Hotel The Claridges, New Delhi
