Avalanche• Occurs when a large amount of snow travels down a slope• Two components of an avalanche; snow filled slope and a trigger• Powerful enough to snap trees http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/avalanche/elements.html and destroy buildings• When over, snow sets up very compact making rescue difficult• Caused more deaths in U.S. than earthquakes
    3. 3. Earthquake• Occurs when two plates shift or slide past each other• Plates touch at points called faults• Focus- the point at which an earthquake begins• Epicenter- point right above the focus where earthquake causes most movement
    4. 4. Hurricane• A tropical cyclone with winds of 74 mph or greater• It takes days or weeks to gather the strength to be considered a hurricane•
