    • Record PlayerThe right place for record playersmuseum of scotlandby HOSTMEI R on DECEMBER 11, 2011museum of scotlandImage by cryptdangi cant remember why i took theseQuestion by Little Maiden: Do older people like it when younger kids usedostuff from when they were kids?Like say if you are 60, would you like it that an 8 year old was listening to a record player, and that she liked it better than CD‘s?Or like if you are in late 20′s-early 30′s, would you take comfort(I don‘t really know howelse to put it) in the fact that that a 14 year old was playing the original Nintendo, orAtari?Or would either in this instance not like it, and think of it as a reminder of your age? This question is aimed at people who are from a different generation, so if you wouldn‘tmind answering, I would really appreciate it. You don‘t have to be from either of these agegroups, and you don‘t have to use a recordplayer or Atari for an example.Thank you!Best answer:Answer by BenjaminBecause it makes them feel like there IS a generational bridge between the two. It makesthem feel like what they liked or did, is important because its still around. It‘s inherent inall humans, i think. People want to see the next generation being in some way, like theywere. It makes them feel like what they enjoyed, really was a good, important thing. What do you think? Answer below!{ Comments on this entry are closed }Barber‘s pole record player

If thatwire isn‘t present you‘re next option is going to be anything that runs as an accessory. So,if your cigarette lighter isn‘t constantly on then that will be fine. Otherwise, the next bestoption is typically at the ignition harness. What do you think? Ijust bought a Sony SA W3000 Subwoofer and was wondering how i would hook it up.Best answer:Answer by Jonathan StevensFirst I got to say you have a good view in home stereo equipment. Sony is one of the bestcompanies out there in audio digital coding. So here‘s your answer:The specs on the Sony website say that it has a ―line in‖ type plug. This could SADLY be avariety of things. (Now, I may be new on Yahoo, but I have had 4+ years experience withprofessional audio recording.) From what I can see, the best option would be to look for asub with matching wire inputs, or get a receiver/amp with line outputs. The last option isDIY, but if you have time you can solder a line connector (RadioShack) to set of wireoutputs from your amp. It would look like this:ground (rod part) > black wire^<- line plug (mono) ->hot (tip of plug) > red wireI am not sure if you are good with electronics, but that‘s the best I can do. Happyinstalling! Feel free to ask me any questions you have! I can find you a DIY page or draw aMSFT Paint picture to clarify if needed.Add your own answer in the comments!

A low profile 8 inch subwoofer with 1500 watts oran 8 inch tube subwoofer with 400 watts? And Why?Best answer:Answer by DougTubes are actual tubes. They usually are all-inclusive meaning they come with the sub, wiring and amp. Bass tubes, in a small environment (like a truck cab) soundsmooth/clean and help fill in the bottom-end of music…but they don‘t really hit. A goodshallow-mount sub and a good amp will definitely give you more bass than a bass tube.Know better? Ibasically want to use the receiver as a DVD player for my room, but the surround soundspeakers would be a bit much. Therefore, I want to use the TV as audio. Is there a way todo this?Best answer:Answer by PoohBearPenguinIf this DVD player of yours has a set of red/white stereo audio outputs, simply connectthose to your TV along with the video cable. If your DVD player doesn‘t have audio outputs, then you‘ll have to get a new DVD player. This lack of flexibility is why I hate those ―home theater in a box‖ kits so much. They maybe cheap, but they often just come with a DVD player that has a surround sound decoderinside of it, and no additional inputs or outputs that a real surround receiver would have.Know better? Maybe a computer speaker system, but even thenin order to actually get surround sound you need to hook to all the different ins (front, rear, side, sub) otherwise you‘re just getting simulated surround (the same sound out ofthe front and back speakers). Anyhow, there‘s no possible way that the built in iMacspeakers compare to even a crappy home theater system, so I personally say ―don‘t‖ eventry. Students will also have the opportunity tolearn to develop their own applications for the iPad. The devices were handed out in lateAugust when students move onto campus. This latest action is part of the university‘sMobility Initiative, a pilot program studying whether mobile technology enhances thestudent education experience."DCC is thrilled to be joining the university‘s innovative Mobility Initiative," said Dr.Matthew Kirschenbaum, Associate Professor of English and Director of Digital Culturesand Creativity. Kirschenbaum adds, "Many of DCC‘s students are digital natives who willcome to campus already having programmed their own applications, made their ownelectronic music and art, or designed their own interactive media. They will use theiriPads in the context of a curriculum that immerses them in the surprisingly long andcomplex history of thought behind today‘s new media devices. They will learn to developnew content for the platform, as well as use it to consume rich media integral to theireducation."
    • DCC‘s faculty includes Associate Professor of Computer Science and former director ofthe University of Maryland‘s Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory Ben Bederson, who has already developed applications for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad.For nearly two years, the University of Maryland has been studying whetherincorporating mobile technology enhances the student educational experience.Sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, and the Office of Information Technology, theMobility Initiative began in fall 2008. During its two years of existence, 280 freshmen inthe Banneker/Key Scholarship and Maryland Incentive Awards programs have beengiven either an iPhone or iPod touch to test inside and outside of class. In addition to the 75 DCC students who received an Apple iPad in the fall, approximately160 new freshmen in the Banneker/Key Scholarship and Maryland Incentive Awardsprograms were given either an iPhone or iPod touch devices – bringing the number ofstudent pilot participants to approximately 515.During the initiative‘s first year, more than 130 student participants used the mobiledevices to substitute for student response devices (also known as clickers) in class, toaccess the mobile versions of the university‘s portal and learning management system, and to participate in varied special activities, such as research scavenger hunts. For its second year, the pilot study expanded to include additional students, professors, and learning opportunities. New efforts were undertaken to support faculty in theirefforts to incorporate mobile learning into their courses, including offering a set of iPodtouch devices that can be loaned out to students in a course to support specific learningactivities.Additionally, an Office of Information Technology (OIT) and Center for TeachingExcellence (CTE) partnership gives participants in the CTE‘s Summer Institute forNew(er) Technologies the opportunity to explore integrating mobile learning activitiesinto their courses with support from OIT."Four fall courses and five spring courses have been part of these efforts," said Ellen YuBorkowski, Director of Academic Support in the Office of Information Technology. "Someof the mobile learning activities in these courses include recording assessments of highschool PE teachers, recording use of media as part of an international research study,
    • collecting and distributing interpretations of poetry, and using the devices‘ recording andplayback features in support of learning foreign languages. OIT and the CTE plan tocontinue this partnership into the Mobility Initiative‘s third year," Borkowski said.Additionally, for the spring 2010 semester, a new upper-level computer science offeringwas introduced to the university‘s curriculum. The new course, "CMSC498I: SelectedTopics in Computer Science: Programming the iPhone," covers topics such as iPhonedevelopment tools and fundamentals; user interface design; media considerations relatedto gaming, audio, and video; and usability and quality assessment. As part of the course, students are developing new mobile applications for the iPhone, specifically focusing onones that can be deployed and used across the university as part of Maryland‘s overallefforts to support mobile devices on campus.Digital Cultures and Creativity is sponsored by the College of Arts and Humanities, withco-sponsorship from the Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities, theDepartment of Computer Science, and the College of Information Studies.
