  • 2. VERB TENSE- tells when the action or state of being takes place
  • 3.
    • There are 3 simple tenses
    • 1. present tense
    • 2. past tense
    • 3. future tense
  • 4. PRESENT TENSE
    • 1. TO MAKE MOST VERBS SINGULAR ADD “S” or do nothing to the verb.
    • EX. Joey runs to the bus.
    • Franco cooks breakfast.
  • 5.
    • 2. to make a verb that ends in “s”, “x”, “z”, “ch”, or “sh” singular, add “es”.
    • Ex. Amos watches the television.
            • Lindsey washes the dishes
  • 6.
    • 3. to make a verb that ends in a consonant and “y” singular, change the “y” to “i” and add “es”.
    • Ex. The baby cries in his bed. (cry)
  • 7.
    • 4. When the subject is plural , do not change the form of the verb.
    • Ex. The students hurry from the building
            • (plural)
  • 8. PAST TENSE
  • 9.
    • 1. For most verbs add “ed”
    • Ex. The police talked to the robbers.
  • 10.
    • 2. When a short verb ends in a consonant, double the consonant and add “ed”.
    • Ex. Andy batted three times in the game.
            • Bat-batted
  • 11.
    • 3. When a verb ends in “e” drop the “e” and add “ed”.
    • Ex. We wasted a lot of time at the mall.
            • Waste --- wasted
  • 12.
    • 4. When a verb ends in a consonant and “y” , change the “y” to “i” and add “ed”.
    • Ex. Leslie tried to be first in every race.
            • TRY---TRIED
  • 13. FUTURE TENSE
  • 14.
    • Use the basic form of the verb with the helping verb will or shall.
    • Remember : (will, or shall) + verb
    • Ex. The frog will hop off the log.
    • I shall fly in an airplane.
