Dear Mrs. Dake,
It is a pleasure to receive this year’s Empire State College - Stewart’s Shops
Community College Scholarship. I am deeply honored by the generosity of Stewarts, not
just to me but to all of those who are receiving your scholarships this year. Your
scholarships enhance our communities, provide opportunities for college students for
furthering their academic carriers and promote the public good. Mrs. Dake, your
scholarships are the essence of what my MA in Public Policy at Empire State College
teaches us: that community involvement, the enrichment of society benefits all of us. I
would like you to know Mrs. Dake that your scholarship to me will not only allow me to
complete my MA in Public Policy and Health Care Administration at SUNY Empire but also
help me toward achieving my goal of an MBA at IONA in Management and Health Care
Administration. You scholarship is an investment in me and with that I wish to tell you your
investment in me will not be squandered.
As I finish up my degree at SUNY Empire and am now taking classes at IONA, I want
my carrier to be a reflection of those who have invested in me and my future. Through
volunteering, advocacy and schooling I began a project that became an official 501(c)3, the
Children’s Healthcare Crisis Fund Inc. Although the economy has hit it very hard and it was
forced to close, I learned how much people need in this world. Now, Mrs. Dake my goals
have not fallen but have since grown. Through volunteering again and through carrier
placement I hope to work in management at a regional hospital. Over time and with enough
experience I wish to join the Peace Corps or Doctors without Borders and travel to other
countries building hospitals and clinics in places where they are very badly needed.
Mrs. Dake you enriched my life and once again affirmed in my heart that I am on the
right path. I will in turn give your gift to me to others, who will then give it to others. Your
scholarship has refreshed my zeal in public policy, it will allow me to continue in my
schooling and it will benefit not just me, but the many others down the road as I put your
gift to me to work for others in our world. I have enclosed a card of what I have created and
although I had to leave it behind your thoughts and gifts make it that much more worth the
while to continue on toward even grander dreams.
