The virtual museum is the result of the conjunction of the traditional concept of a museum with the multimedia computer and communication technology of the Internet. The virtual museum is dematerializing the object for the benefit of providing much more information: the image in all its manifestations (2D, 3D, details, physico-chemical analyses, facsimiles, etc.) and the knowledge of the image (intrinsic information on the object, ex-trinsic information on the context of the object, historiographical information, reference information, etc.). It dematerializes the museum itself by making possible a “remote visit” F. Djindjian

Some considerations The items are collected in thematic and chronological paths (in the halls); there are texts, images, videos and a 3D model for each item; but: the 3D is used in a technology-driven way. Its use is poor both for the users and for the scholars. We can’t really interact, get measures of the items, or make real comparisons between the objects.

  31. 31. The potential of the vr panoramas is great, but in the last examples the users can’t retrieve any information/contents. We’re trying to obtain this aim with an European Network of many professionals both from the technology side and the culture side
