2. 2. The major organs in the nervous system.

The Spinal Cord

The Brain

Hair Follicles

Facial Nerves

 3. 3. The Spinal Cord

Structure:

A bundle of nerve fibres (Technically called axons

Function:

Sends messages from the brain to the rest of the body.

 4. 4. Brain

Structure:

A pink jelly like organ that is folded over on itself to maximize it’s surface area.

Function:

Controls everything in your body.

 5. 5. Hair Follicles

Structure:

A group of epidermal cells at the base of a tube like depression.

Function:

They basically make goosebumps.

 6. 6. Facial Nerves

Function:

Performs both motor and sensory functions.

Controls muscles of the neck and forehead.

Controls facial expressions.

Simulates secreations of the lower jaw.

 7. 7. The nervous systems relationship with the muscular system.

The nerves send messages to your muscles to tell them something is wrong or hurt in your body.

 8. 8. Healthy effects of the nervous system

Eat healthy

Practice writing for at least 15 minutes a day

 9. 9. Unhealthy effects of the nervous system

Avoid alcohal and drugs

Alcohal and drugs mess with your brain

 10. 10. Diseases of the nervous system

Spinal Dysraphism:

Abnormalibities in the spinal cord

Mostly due to the development of spinal cord and/or the vertebral

Epilepsy:

A condition characterized by recurring seizures in an individual

 11. 11. Interesting facts about the nervous system

The number of cells in the human body exceeds the number of stars in the milky way

The right side of the brain controls the left side of the body and the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body

By the time it’s born a baby’s brain consists of about 10 million nerve cells

The human spinal cord consists of 13,500,000 nerons

 12. 12. Interesting facts continued

The weight of an average male’s brain is 1375 grams, while a females would weigh 1275 grams.

The nervous system can transmit impulses at a tremendous speed of 100 meters per second

At any given time only 4 percent of your brain cells are active. The rest are kept in reserve.
