  • HABITAT
    • Found in tropical and sub tropical places in the atlantic and indo pacific
    • Sawfish live only in shallow muddy water and can be found both in fresh water and salt water
    • All sawfish have the ability to transition from salt water to fresh water
    • Places sawfish live is in australia and florida also can be found in tropical fresh waters
  • LIFE CYCLE
    • Very little known about size, age maturity, and reproduction of sawfish in florida
    • Comes from an egg, but hatches inside its mother
    • Smalltooth sawfish are born in late spring through summer in south florida
    • Can be up to 20 young in one litter and each may measure between 1.5 and 2.5 feet
  • APPEARENCE
    • Saw like rostrum (snout)
    • Snout is covered in electro sensitive pores that detect movement even under deep sea levels and underground
    • Looks like a flat headed shark
    • Skeleton made of cartilage
    • Eyes are undeveloped due to muddy habitat
  • PREDATORS
    • Adult sawfish have very little predators
    • Crocodiles, large sharks, and marine mammals are known predators of even juvenile sawfish
