  • 3. Stomach <ul><li>Structure: bag like structure. </li></ul><ul><li>Function: to process and transport food. </li></ul>
  • 4. Small Intestines <ul><li>Structure: a convoluted tube </li></ul><ul><li>Function: to absorb most of the nutrients from what we eat and drink </li></ul>
  • 5. Pancreas <ul><li>Structure: an elongated organ that lies behind and below the stomach. </li></ul><ul><li>Function: produce pancreatic juice containing enzymes to digest the food in the intestine. </li></ul>
  • 6. Esophagus <ul><li>Structure: muscular tube </li></ul><ul><li>Function: to carry food, liquids and saliva from the mouth to the stomach </li></ul>
  • 7. The Excretory System <ul><li>The Digestive System relates to the Excretory system because the digestive system digests and it isn’t possible to get rid of the food without digesting it. </li></ul>
  • 8. Healthy Effects of The Digestive System <ul><li>Healthy foods to eat: </li></ul><ul><li>Red beets </li></ul><ul><li>Sweet potatoes </li></ul><ul><li>Avacados </li></ul><ul><li>Oats </li></ul>
  • 9. Harmful Effects of The Digestive System <ul><li>Unhealthy foods you shouldn’t eat: </li></ul><ul><li>Too much sugar </li></ul><ul><li>Fast foods </li></ul><ul><li>Soda </li></ul><ul><li>White flour </li></ul>
  • 10. Common Diseases of The Digestive System <ul><li>Peptic Ulcer: a sore on the lining of the stomach </li></ul><ul><li>Crohn’s Disease: causes swelling deep in the lining of the intestine </li></ul>
  • 11. Interesting Facts <ul><li>In the mouth, food is either cooled or warmed to a more suitable temperature </li></ul><ul><li>Hundreds of enzymes are needed to properly digest food </li></ul><ul><li>The esophagus is approximately 25cm long. </li></ul>
