    knowledge is not like a puzzle and the increase of knowledge is not like the creation of new pieces of the puzzle



    knowledge is hierarchical, and what a student learns is the basic structure of a certain area of knowledge - this doesn’t change that much, especially in established sciences like physics or biology - the new information that is added daily is details, most of them adding further support to the existing theories
