  • @monsieurmorris Thanks Adam, Appreciate you taking the time to respond. Since hearing you speak and getting your comments above I have begun opening up discussions in order to get my colleagues and myself thinking about our approach. Hopefully, with small steps, we can shift our attitudes toward generating real value, not just digital noise.

    Thanks again.

  • @DennisHarry Cheers Dennis, glad you enjoyed the talk. Just for the record ROI and doing 'meaningful' work aren't mutually exclusive. The point is that generating meaningful value is good business!

The trick is to put forward feasible options based on sound business, that aren't focused around interrupting and extracting value from people (in terms of their time and energy), but instead are grounded in value creation.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks Adam, your talk at Pause Fest opened my eyes to many things and I appreciate being able to come here and grab see the slideshow again.

One of the biggest slap in the faces comes from the fact our agency still bases its whole digital approach around ROI's, flash banners and generating a whole range of cyber junk.

Whats worse, they refuse to be open to anything else and as a digital designer just finding his feet, its becoming a very constrictive environment to learn in.

Clichè as its sounds, but I feel there is hope yet knowing there are poeple striving to do it better.

    Thanks again

  • Here's a YouTube video (with hilariously inappropriate voiceover and soundtrack) for Samsung's Bridge of Life that I mentioned --> http://goo.gl/ItqTim

As we're discovering the hard way, capitalism is predicated on extracting wealth from people, communities, society, nature, and the future — and so the fundamental challenge of the 21st century is learning to create authentic, meaningful, lasting value for them. 19. 19. • Design for people, not pixels. Think ‘value creation for humans’ • Think beyond the browser. Broader opportunity to interact in the real world, we can add genuine value to their lives. • Shift conversation towards problems worth solving. Opportunity to create thick value; thick value reduces waste and avoids social/environmental debt.
