Q: In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?
My magazine is a R&B/Hip-pop music magazine and it uses some of the forms and conventions that other magazines uses through its layout which is similar to successful music magazines such as Vibes and the Source. The picture on my front cover takes up most of the page and is focusing solely on him, this is the same with other music magazines, they focus on one band/singer and then feature them on many pages Like most read media products. I used sub headings to advertise features in my magazine, they all target my audience bringing attention to my magazine .Another part of my magazine that is similar to media products is the free CD and posters that come with my magazine, this is a tactic a lot of companies use to attract new viewers.
My magazine doesn’t go against the forms and conventions set up my other magazine belonging to this genre but it fit in with the representation that other R&B magazines would normally portray.

How does your media product represent particular social groups
My magazine represents a R&B/ Hip-pop social group between the ages of 15-25. some of the way in which my magazine represent that social group ar e:
The language used throughout my media product is not too formal. The intended audience of the magazine is teens so when they read the articles in the magazine they would be able to identify themselves with what is being said. The magazine has slangs which some of the teens might use thus it would give them a sense that they’re being represented in the media world. Overall I think my magazine has the right mix to represent both the teens and those who are a little older.
The model featured throughout the magazine identifies with my social group, the way the models dress and their gestures maybe similar to how my social group portray themselves.
The fonts used in the magazine in bolded and is in red and other bright colors which would attract the readers attention.
The articles in my magazine contains the latest gossips that my target readers are keen to know about thus making them more interested in the magazine.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The media institution that might distribute my R&B music magazine would be ‘The Nielson Company’ which distributes existing magazines for example ‘Rap Up’ and ‘Billboard’.
These magazines are such a big success thus the Nielson company would be the right media institution to distribute my media product as they could use the same tactics as they used with Rap Up and Billboard to make my magazine a big success as the magazine previous mentioned .
Other media institution that might be a distributor for my magazine are:
To advertise my magazine I would create a website, so that my reader would be able to access my magazine easily. Also I will give my intended audience the opportunity to subscribe to the magazine which will have a subscription fee around £1.99 per month.
I could use social networking sites such as twitter and facebook to advertise my magazine because my target audience belong to the age group which uses social networking sites so it would be an effective way of advertising and maybe distribution.
Before the production of my magazine I carried out a market research questionnaire to get a feel of who the audience of my magazine would be, what they are interests and how much they are willing to pay for a music magazine. From the questionnaire I found out theses things:
My focus audience would be young people between 15 – 25
The music they are more interested in is R&B, thus the theme of my magazine.
The cost at which I would sell my magazine in order to make it affordable to my audience.
After the final product of my magazine was finished I asked my target audience their opinion on how my magazine addressed their entertainment needs and if it were something they would purchase. Their response was:
Just by looking at the magazine I could tell what it is and what is it trying to represent.
The color scheme of the magazine is very attractive, the language and the picture on the front cover is something that they themselves could identify with.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
My audience would be young people between the ages of 15 – 25.
The magazine is not aimed at any gender in specific but tries to incorporate things that would interest both genders. The colors used on the magazine is quit universal also the articles in the magazine would tend to the needs of both gender, there’s gossip for females and info on music and gigs for males.
The audience for my magazine would be interested in R&B music.
By using a consistent colour throughout my magazine which is red and black, I chose red/black after researching similar music magazines to mine and found that the colour widely used is red or black with a touch of white.
The model featured on the magazine is attractive and has swag, thus appealing to my audiences needs. The colour scheme of my magazine stands out and would be able to attract my audiences attention.
The language used throughout the magazine appeals to my target audience as it isn’t too formal or informal making it just the right mix for the age I am targeting, using the right mode of address.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
I have learned that with technology one can do great things. Also in the production of a good magazine technology must be used in order to make the magazine what you want it to be.
Throughout the making of my magazine I have used Adobe Photoshop to assist me along the way and this is what I’ve learnt:
To crop out and image from a photo and make them different length and sizes.
I learnt how to use different layers which allowed me to overlap text and photos.
I learnt how to create fancy design with the use of the brushes.
I also learnt how to use different texts/sizes and colours to make the font stand out on the magazine also how to add different effects to it such as: inner glow and drop shadow.
how to lasso around photos, this allows you to cut out around specific areas, in my case I used it to completely get rid of the background so only the artist would be put on the plain white background
Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
Lots of research is needed in finding the correct target group and finding ways in which you can attract them to your magazine .
There shouldn’t be too much images on the on the front cover, however when using images it should represents your audiences and be relevant to the magazine.
I learnt how the layout has to be, having the master head at the top of the page in big bold writing.
You need to have your articles in columns that don’t consist of too much right to put the reader off.
The colours used also need to be chosen correctly to ensure they will appeal to your target audience and they should remain consistent throughout the whole magazine.
It takes a lot of time and dedication to accomplish a fairly successful finish product.
