With today's technology, it's no longer necessary to maintain the traditional (and oversized!) 3-ring binder for your teaching portfolio. In this presentation (which was presented at PETE&C 2013 by Monica Rysavy and Kim Tohill), we explored various e-portfolio development tools and demonstrated how to create an e-portfolio that showcases evidence of your teaching skills and professional qualifications

  • Students have changed, pedagogy is changing, assessment must change too!
  • Main difference with traditional portfolios is the inclusion of rich media.  The individual can use the portfolio to present himself in relation to ever-changing society and times.
  • E-portfolios are 100% customizable to each unique person. Demonstrate more than tests such as personal & social responsibility, intercultural competence & knowledge, teamwork, etc.Self-reflection leads to personal growth, professional growth and shows the ability of an individual to construct knowledge.
  • Comm: video of presentation; creativity - bulletin boards; critical thinking: paper with instructor feedback; intercultural - experiences abroad; research - studies; social responsibility - volunteering, membership in community groups
  • Both from you and your students
  • Use universally accessible formats like PDF or RTF when possible. Make the layout attractive but not cluttered and easy to navigate.Watch color combinations as they may appear different on various monitors and mobile devices. Dark background, light text; light background, dark text. Customize what can be seen based on who views your site - tailor to specific visitors like potential employers or visitors
  • Iterative process; gives insight into the time and place where the artifacts were created.  creator must explore their beliefs and assumptions as they choose which work to showcase - what do i want to present to the world?
