Climate & vegetation

  1. 1. CLIMATE Group of atmospheric conditions that predominate in a particular area of the Earth The latitude • The distance that the area is situated from the Equator. The proximity or distance of the sea • Areas close to the sea: milder temperatures and more rain than inland. • Areas far from the sea: hot summers, cold winters and little rain. Cold area Temperate area The altitude and relief • The temperature decreases with altitude • The relief: modifies the temperature and rainfall. Peripheral range isolate inlands from the influence of the sea. Large part of Spain is in the temperate zone. There are five climatic zones: Warm area Temperate area Cold area Atlantic Mountain Mediterranean Subtropical Continental
  2. 2. VEGETATION Depends on climatic factors and orientation. The shady side: faces north . It receives less sunlight, is more humid, and has more vegetation. The sunny side: faces south. It receives more sunlight, is drier, and has less vegetation. Natural landscapes: Forests: Are those landscapes not modified by man. Mediterranean Oceanic Coniferous Shore of rivers
