  • 2. <ul><li>Celebrated on March 17 or on the preceding Saturday. </li></ul><ul><li>Holiday dates back to the story of a boy named Patrick who lived in Ireland </li></ul><ul><li>Patrick was kidnapped from Ireland and from then on heroic legends arose. </li></ul>
  • 3. <ul><li>Patrick felt it was his duty to convert Ireland into Christianity and away from their Celtic religions. </li></ul><ul><li>To explain the Holy Trinity, Patrick used a three-leaf clover. </li></ul><ul><li>Irish people embraced the symbol </li></ul>
  • 4. <ul><li>Patrick died on March 17, and later became a saint. </li></ul><ul><li>His death was commemorated on that day in Ireland. </li></ul><ul><li>Now the day has become a celebration . </li></ul>
  • 5. <ul><li>Leprechauns have also become a popular symbol of the holiday </li></ul><ul><li>They are seen usually as whimsical creatures. </li></ul><ul><li>Irish legend tells otherwise– they are mischievous and tricky. </li></ul>
