Most discussion is around Places • Google purchased Zetawire focusing on Mobile Payment Samsung • Samsung Nexus S running Gingerbread 2.3 (tag reading) shipping since Dec 16 at Best Buy and CPW, Galaxy S2 announced in MWC • Samsung also announced Bada 2.0 with NFC support • Samsung is implementing the NXP PN544 which will allow secure NFC later • Samsung are active with Orange & Telefonica trials Apple • Numerous patents filed for payment & PC synch • Currently enables NFC via third party hw accessories from suppliers like Device Fidelity, Mophie, Icarte (cases , accessory attachments). These NFC solutions used commercially in Japan & trialed in USA with Visa RIM • Limited trials with stickers (trialled with Bank of Montreal) , handsets have been used by banks (Visa, Mastercard) and NFC enabled with MicroSD cards- but has not required active RIM support. • Recruiting NFC test engineers HTC • Taiwan’s Chungwa Telecom and HTC are partnering on NFC in Taiwan: costs subsidised by the government, HTC manufacturing the device.   • Implementation OverviewA Symbian NFC device has different operating modes: Reader NFC Applications• Reader/writer: when reader is polling for a passive /writer NFC tag NFC Interfaces• Peer to Peer: communicate with another NFC device• Card Emulation: where the NFC modem can poll for Services Peer to Peer & adaptation another NFC device and establish a data connection * Base BandSymbian NFC device have one mode active at a time. Switching between modes (polling NFC cycle) happens automatically and is not visible for the phone user. Card NFC Controller Antenna Emulation*NFC is by default polling / listening, but polling stops when device has been idle for a certain amount of time.
