WHAT IS TWITTER?
Twitter is a “micro-blogging” service
that allows you to create, send and
receive messages of 140 characters
of less - also referred to as “tweets”.
WHAT IS A FOLLOWING?
Your “following” are the
people who’s “tweets”
you’ve chosen to receive.
WHAT ARE FOLLOWERS?
People who’ve chosen to receive
your “tweets” are referred
to as your “followers.”
The “best” Twitter users tend to be those with
more “followers” than “following.”
Be wary of anyone with thousands of
“following” yet very few “followers.”
Be especially wary of those same people that
have few, if any, actually published tweets.
WHAT IS A RETWEET?
If a Twitter user thinks a post of
another user is interesting, they may
choose to repeat -- or “retweet” --
the tweet to their own followers.
Getting your messages “retweeted” is one of the
ultimate compliments within the Twittersphere.
WHAT IS A HASHTAG?
Adding a hashtag - or “#keyword” -
is a way of categorizing your
message to make it easier for
non-followers to find your tweet.
WHAT IS A DM?
A DM - or “Direct Message” - is a
private message between two users.
You may only DM those people
following you. DMs are not searchable.
